Feedback on Finished songs / Re: No One Else Can Banish Clouds

Ha ha!

I’ve just got in after an afternoon in the pub and have read this without having the opportunity to listen to it yet…and it reads beautifully.

I know that we can’t all be this good at lyrics…and I won’t throw my pen in the bin just yet…but you’re such a fab lyricist.

I have to have something inspiring to write about.

A lot of writers have to look for things to write about.

And you “just” write and it’s all there.

You’re a lucky man, @Paul V

I’ll check this out tomorrow, expecting that it will soothe my probable hangover.

Aw Paul @PaulAds, you're so kind. I'll take that as a massive compliment from such a talented writer like yourself. Many, many thanks.

Paul

I really like the sparseness of expression here. The lyrics seem to point to a moment in time that I can visualise through the words and are not weighed down with lots of other considerations.

The music is very simple, both harmonically and arrangement wise and that reinforces the focus of the lyrics. That hook line "No one else can banish clouds like you" has real force when it arrives.
I would have done something fancy in the middle harmonically but I love that you don't, it's all suspended tension which goes with the emotional content of the lyrics.
Lovely work, lovely restraint on show all the way thru.

I pondered.......should I write an accompaniment or leave this as it is; piano and vocal?

"I waited for a ghost to appear.  A dream arose then disappeared like the morning sun".

No one else can banish clouds like you

I waited, but the call didn’t come.
I stood outside the coffee shop then  the rain came down.
Cars drove by like rocket ships; they didn’t have a clue.
No one else can banish clouds like you.

Hope leaves a heavy heart, stranded in the cold.

I waited for a ghost to appear.
A dream arose then disappeared like the morning sun.
Tears can speak of many hurts; oftentimes they do.
No one else can banish clouds like you.

Hope leaves a heavy heart, stranded in the cold.

To look upon a winter scene and not know where it ends.
To live and not exist.
Should one persist?
Hold me.

I waited, but the call didn’t come.
I stood outside the coffee shop then the rain came down.
Cars drove by like rocket ships; they didn’t have a clue.
No one else can banish clouds like you.

@moraamarolaloba,

I often neglect to showcase my guitar playing in favour of the song but I've had a change of heart lately, especially when playing acoustic.

@kevysc,

I hope that you are well and thank you for dialling into this song. Thank you for noticing that I have devoted some time to this production. Mostly thank you for your warm welcome!

Paul

@MonnoDB,  hello Karen.  I hope that you are well. I'm always unsure about my voice.  I like certain aspects and others, not so much.  I can sing in a really powerful manner but I don't like what I hear so I favour a softer approach. The higher register is my go-to approach though It's not the most natural for me.  Perhaps I should deliberately sing in a lower register to discover what happens.  :)

Paul

@Jazz101, hello George and thank you for your kind words.

@Elvis Nash thank you so much.  I do devote much attention to the production, guitar, is something that I have rediscovered my passion for lately.  I've been playing for more than 40 years but it's always been secondary to writing.  :)

@Elvis Nash

Beautiful backing vocals to introduce the main vocal, which in my opinion is filled with character.  The production throughout is excellent and the melody is spot on!  Underpinned by a cool guitar too.  Everything to like here and nothing to dislike.
