Indie pop of sorts, more upbeat than my usual output. Feedback appreciated as always.

It seems so real
Feels so ideal
Our faith is strong
What could go wrong?

As kings of nothing and nowhere
We'll be happy
The World will laugh but we won't care
Cos we are who we want to be
We drift away
We fade to grey

The cards are bent
The money's spent
And the crystal ball
Made the wrong call

As kings of nothing and nowhere
We'll be happy
The World will laugh but we won't care
Cos we are who we want to be
We drift away
We fade to grey

I'm a sucker for songs with yearning, melancholy vocals and a good melody. This song is gorgeous and improves each time, bringing the listener back for another listen.

Marvellous work,richardyot.  8)

Hi, I really like the guitar sound and riffs, pretty cool. Like the overall instrumenatation and sounds, they worked well and the melody was good. Cool sounds! Wouldn't like to hear your downbeat stuff! ;)
Cheers

Hi Richard,

Very cool song - ticks many of my like boxes.
The pounding drums sound brill.
The synths are spot on - lovely pads just swirling away in the background.
Then the guitars just sparkle on top.
All just the right tones for me.
The vocal blends in well. I think this is where I get a bit more of the "upbeat" feel - it has a lighter feel to it.

Great listen.

I really liked this Richard. It has a really psychedelic feel to it yet also sounds very contemporary indie. Loved some of the stuff you are doing with the melody line especially in the chorus. The swell of background guitar is great as well. Super stuff.

Richard,

Enjoyed this track.

Very well produced and I liked the vocal too. Well done!

I liked the lyrics:
And the crystal ball,
Made the wrong call.

Creates a lovely image.

Good work,

Paul

Great song and production. I really like the song concept and most of the lyrics - though the "fade to grey" perhaps might have been heard a few too many times before? Maybe something along the lines of "born to fade" could work? Not sure. No-one else has mentioned it so it's probably just me...

Really listenable track though, one of my current faves on here.

Good point - thanks for pointing it out.

And thanks to everyone for the very positive feedback, very few crits this time round. I personally think the verse melody is a bit weak, and the lyrics have room for improvement, but I'm making slow progress so I'm happy with that.

Very much enjoyed this track. The reverb-heavy production worked perfectly for me, and I also though the vocals were well done (which can be a bug bear of mine).

So all round a thumbs up! Kinda reminded me of some of the more experimental U2 tracks, no bad thing...

Sounds very good to me. I don't know much about this style of music but it all fits together well - lovely vocal, and a fine melody. Arrangement works superbly - sounds very pro to me :-) Yep, a nice listen and as good as much stuff I hear on the wireless.

Well done

Great work, sadly I cannot add to the comments and only reinforce that " fade to grey "is cliche. But I loved the way you sang those lyrics.

To be honest I had thought it would not be as good as this, awesome talent you have Richard, please keep posting here and on soundcloud too

Hello!

Melancholic, dark, 80's-vibe. What more could you ask for in a song?

The guitar sounds are perfect I think, being a sucker for chorus and reverb. The synths are fitted really good in the mix with the vocals. The melody in the chorus is really intresting, in a good way. I enjoyed listen to this all the way through, and will continue to enjoy it.

With love
