Recommend us your favourite songs

Hey all.

Thought it'd be cool to have a thread where we can recommend musicians, songs, albums etc to each other.

No criteria needed for WHY you choose them, but a little explanation for why would be cool Wink

I came across a guy called A.A. Bondy recently. Acoustic "folk" I guess you'd call it. His song writing is really good and I dig his voice. Stand out tracks would be Killed Myself When I Was Young and American Hearts.

That's about the same.

Re: Recommend us your favourite songs

Madina Lake - They're a post-punk kinda band with a decently unique sound. The main reason for the recommendation is that their 3 albums so far have all had one purpose: to tell the story of 'Adalia'. The whole thing is a cryptic message describing the disappearance of her. There's all the enjoyment of listening to the album added to massive satisfaction when you crack part of the story. Like listening to a rock opera only it's across 3 albums and is a bit more cryptic in places.

Not new by any means but the albums I have listened to most in the last year

Yusuf - another cup

Gerry Rafferty - One More Dream and On a Wing and a Prayer ( The best break up album ever - seriously)

Turning into an old fart but these albums really are classic songwriting!

Remember - the more quality feedback you give, the more you receive. Take time to listen and review other members' songs.

I am a massive fan of Townes Van Zandt and the Tallest man on earth primarily for their lyrics.

Gomez - Bring It On. The last album I thought "Wow" about.

It's not where you're at, it's how far you've travelled.

Re: Recommend us your favourite songs

I've recently been introduced to an electronic artist called Toxic Chicken, whom I'm finding very influential rhythmically due to his interesting beats.  His harmonies are crude but very effective.  His song Junkie (short version on YouTube) is very jovial and uplifting despite the bizarre lyrics and is currently on constant play.

Acoustically I'm a sucker for Tim Buckley and Neil Innes...  Strange Street Affair Under Blue and Cheese and Onions being my top recommendations.

Re: Recommend us your favourite songs

There is lots of stuff out there I love but I thought I'd recommend a guy who releases all his work under a Creative Commons Licence.
In other words it's free to listen to and download.
He's a very talented (in my opinion) songwriter and multi-instrumentalist called Josh Woodward. His work spans the spectrum from humorous to incredibly emotional.

Check him out here.

I'd recommend the albums "Ashes" or "Dirty Wings" as they are my favourites.

I have no authority or standing here, only opinions. :-)
