Which 10 songs do you most wish you'd written?

Which 10 songs do you wish you'd written? Not for reasons of financial gain or fame, or even because they are great, but rather because they strike some emotional chord. You must have had that 'I wish I'd written that' feeling - I'll start with 10 off the top of my head (in no particular order)

Ruby's Arms - Tom Waits
God only Knows - Beach Boys
She Doesn't Exist Any More - Robyn Hitchcock
How Soon Is Now? - Morrissey/Smiths
Ship Song - Nick Cave
Sparky's Dream - Teenage Fanclub
Shipbuilding - Elvis Costello
Back In Black - AC/DC (The perfect rock song)
Hurt - 9 inch Nails
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye

I could keep going for ages but that's the first 10 that came to mind.

Youth & enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery.

Re: Which 10 songs do you most wish you'd written?

My 10 ended up being songs that I don't listen to much these days, but when I do, I get moved just like I did when I first heard them. I think the newer stuff I'm currently listening to will need some time to make a list like this.

In no particular order...

Shelter From The Storm - Dylan
Which Will - Nick Drake
American Tune - Paul Simon
Talkin’ Bout A Revolution - Tracy Chapman
Minutes To Memories - John Mellencamp
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters - John/Taupin
Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen
Old Man - Neil Young
Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell
Into The Mystic - Van Morrison
