VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

Hia, this is my first post here but I aim to stick around. In the past and possibly future too I have
been a rapper from Skrimshank and Unstable Fabulists. Over the past year or so for various reasons
I have got back into playing my guitar and have written a few songs. This is the first one I recorded
and is just me and the Squier Tele. Vocals recorded on an SM58 runnin through a Boss Micro br digital
4 track recorder. Didnt use a metronome so the timing varies but I think that adds to it haha Huh
Will go grab me headphones in a min and get crittin a few other tracks in here to hopefully
generate some good karma!  Please let me know what you think if you get chance.

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

Heres the lyrics

Girl your hot like jalepeno
will you be my valentino?
dont bruise my ego
she said yeah yeah its a no no

sorry did i miss somethin?
i always knew whats coming...

yeah yeah its a no i know
float solo on my lilo
on receiving end of elbows
yeah yeah its a no no

sorry did i miss somethin?
i always know whats coming

yeah yeah its a no i know
looking dapper in my chinos
can i get you a glass of vino?
yeah yeah its a no no

sorry did i miss somthin?
i always knew whats coming

take another low blow
only one way for my yo yo
i'm pleading with the cosmos
yeah yeah its a no no

sorry did i miss somethin?
i always knew whats coming

yeah yeah its a no no (repeat x 8!)
no

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

Hiya Smiley

I'm assuming this is supposed to be done with a band? That's how I'm hearing it.
I like the riff and distorted guitar, and the lyrics were fun. Thought the vocals were really good too with those harmonies.
I thought the line,"can i get you a glass of vino?" sounded a bit too forced. Maybe just, "want a glass of vino?" might work better?
I think it badly needs another section too, to break it up.
It's a cool track though and has potential Smiley

To get a review, give some reviews. Give and take. Simples. If that's too complicated........

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

thanks mate. not sure if its "supposed" to be done with a band. It is what it is. I like to imagine it with a bass and guitars but do like how it sounds broken down like this. I havent got a band as such at present so future outputs from myself are likely to be drum free for a while but I might think about stickin some bass on and maybe a bit of tamborine!
havin said that i might be able to convince my old skrimshank partner to do some drums for me... we'll see how it develops i suppose Smiley

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

thanks a lot Smiley i will try and keep them comin!
i layered 2 vocal takes on this one

^^i know what you mean about something to break it up although i often do think middle 8's are overrated and at times take something away from the track rather than adding to it. Also i'm trying to write an album of mostly short simple but catchy blues/alternativerock/grunge/pop type songs, around the 3 minute mark. Having said that i'm sure i will experiment with middle 8's, 16's and such like as i progress. Thanks for all your comments so far

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

Hey Pez,

Nice lyric although I agree with Scavu about the squashed vino line,  but there are some nice lines in there

It's a bit one paced without a mid 8 or a change and for me I would like to hear this at a faster BPM - it kind of drags along - Have you tried this at a faster pace?

Reminds me a lot of Blur

it's sounds like an idea just now that could be produced in many directions - I would love to hear it developed further Wink

Remember - the more quality feedback you give, the more you receive. Take time to listen and review other members' songs.

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

hi pez
neat song, like the idea, gtr sounds meaty,
be terrific if you added bass & drums and as kaf said a change/ contrast just to set it off...

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

I'm sorry to echo others but I'd love to hear this with drums and bass, or sped up just a little!

Got some great catchy melody lines, like the 'yeah yeah it's a no no', played it this morning and been humming it all day. Thats a good sign right? Might be nice with some female vocal harmonies, would offset the grungy vocals nicely.

The lyrics read without hearing the song, I just wouldn't get it. But with the music.. it makes sense and it works. Cool song.

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

thanks so much for your comments, its really nice to get some feedback.

I wrote this track the day I bought my new guitar and recorded it the day after and its all done
on the first take so i'm pretty pleased with the response Smiley I do need drums. Well, a drummer,
I have a vintage pearl kit all packed away but not the room to set it up and not the skills to play it,
although i havent really tried. i need a bigger house, and some soundproofing!

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

I like it. There's a good commercial single in this that would be great with a quirky production. The vocal style is perfect for the song.

Re: VDAY ENTRY: Yeah Yeah its a No No

There's echos of Marc Bolan and that 70's vibe. It's really, really  catchy - excellent tight sound. I agree with the others, this song  is in great need of  bass and drums. Great lyrics.
