Eat the Boss - A song with tongue firmly in cheek!

For some reason I seem to be writing a plethora of what you might call "comedy" songs at the moment, it's a nice release from love and loss but it doesn't half take me to so very different mental places!

This is one I wasn't sure I was going to release for the consumption of the masses but decided in the end to canvas some opinion.  I suspect it might not ever get performed live but I'll see what feedback I get.

Oh and please don't take it too seriously, its not written with actual intent in mind just as a manifestation of my glumness after a rubbish day at work Grin

Lyrics read as follows

In the office every day
He tells me to work harder
I’d love to slice him up in chunks
and keep him in the larder

In his private office
With shagpile on the floor
A bit of careful filleting
He’d feed a family of 4

Chorus
I’d love to get rid of the boss
I don’t think that he’s leaving
The only way for certain is
To chop him up and eat him

If we’re gonna make a feast
We’ll start with his PA
Stick an apple in her mouth and
That’ll be entree

I wouldn’t like to eat him raw
Like Bear Grylls or Ray Mears
But sautéed with garlic and
Washed down with a few beers

Chorus

I have to laugh at all his jokes
Cause I really need the pay
But he’d be more mature
Hung for 28 days

I’m not the only one
Who’d like to see him gone
But maybe by digestion
Well, that’s a little strong

Chorus ....repeat

Yeah, very amusing, I think most of us have been in those situations, though personally I could have never eaten one, I would have stopped at the chopping up bit, lol.

Well sung & recorded for what it is, nice one

Budding Hannibal Lector...  Tongue

Modified - I just read what I wrote and realised it could be taken wrongly. I was laughing with you not at the song Smiley

To get a review, give some reviews. Give and take. Simples. If that's too complicated........

Nice simple melody that grows on you. Leaves ample room for harmonies; in fact, the whole song would work nicely in a full band scenario, should you have/ever get such a luxury

There is a song it reminds me off that I can't put my finger on!

Fun stuff!

i'm not that much into funny songs, but this one is nice. criticism, verse and chorus are almost the same except for a slightly rythm change. may be you should work that out a little more.

Re: Eat the Boss - A song with tongue firmly in cheek!

Thanks for the comments guys,

This is one I did for my own amusement really, this isn't the sort of song that my band are into so I don't think I'll persuade them to perform it.  Was thinking it might just get an outing at a local open mic night as a bit of something different.

Agree with your comments Cheff, I'm not much of a guitar player and need to work on the variety of all the songs I write, I always get scared of making a song too complex or trying to squeeze too many ideas into a single song in case I loose the core feeling of the tune.  I am going to work on light and shade much more and start adding middle 8s and tempo changes to my stuff.

Appreciate the feedback, loving the forum!

I liked it. I watch "songbook" on sky arts1 and a lot of songwriters write a song, then later totally change the lyrics or keep the lyrics and change the tune. This sounds like it could have a lot more to it. And as for keeping it for yourself, Brandon Flowers' album "Flamingo" is totally different from his stuff he does with The Killers. I think it's good that you can have more than one persona.

ha would be nice to have a more worked out version, with choirs (ooohs and aahs) towards the end, more instruments, perhaps even horns and trumpets blowing
