Late start

Only been learning guitar for 3 years, so I'm still crap. Been told the best way to learn is to try and write your own stuff. So, it'll be awful, it'll be corny, it'll be mine! Any help and advice would be grateful. See you on MTV  Grin

Re: Late start

I disagree. A better way to start would be to grab a chord song book from your favourite artist(s). NOT full tab. Then you are pushed into the songs you already know. You can fret the correct chords, but pick out the feel, runs etc, without having to think too much about the changes as you already know where they are coming. This will increase your knowledge of how songs come together, and how guitar playing fits into the equation.

Just my two cents!

Re: Late start

My chord knowledge is bad. I can fingerpick "Here comes the Sun" and "Never going back Again" but struggle with some basic chords, and my pinky finger has a mind of it's own. I work long hours so time on the guitar is limited. I've taught myself so probably did everything wrong as well. A list of songs to learn that progress in difficulty would be handy but, the one's I've found don't seem to have much thought put into them. An example would be "Moonriver" listed as a beginners song to learn but you need control over your pinky finger to know barre chords. Not a beginners song!
