                        WINDS OF WAR

LEAD-IN BRIDGE:
Feel them building - winds of war.
Can't we stop them? - Must they roar?
Must they blow forevermore?

VERSE 1:
Don’t you feel it?
Can you feel them brewing again -  those old winds of war?
Don’t you hear it?
Can you hear those waves of anger breaking along the shore?

VERSE 2:
Don’t you see it?
Can you see dark clouds of misery gathering on an ocean of pain?
Stop them now or
they'll be blowing across the land, delivering a cold, hard rain.

CHORUS:
Feel them building - winds of war.
Can't we stop them? - Must they roar?
Must they blow forevermore?

Can you hear them madam?    Can't you see them sir?
Don’t you feel those winds of war beginning to stir?

VERSE 3:
Listen to me.
Don’t pretend I did not warn you of these coming winds of war.
If you listen,
you will hear them choosing the causes your children will be dying for.

VERSE 4:
Those old winds will
soon be snarling and snappin like the wolf at your front door.
If you don't stop them,
they will take your children for cannon fodder to fuel their engines of war.

CHORUS:
Feel them building - winds of war.
Can't we stop them? - Must they roar?
Must they blow forevermore?

Can you hear them madam?    Can't you see them sir?
Don’t you feel those winds of war beginning to stir?

VERSE 5:
Hide your children.
They will chew your children and spit them out when those cold winds blow somehow.
Step up - be counted.
Those winds will blow your children down if you won’t be counted right now.

BRIDGE TO OUT:
Feel them building - winds of war.
Can't we stop them? - Must they roar?
Must they blow forevermore?

Can’t you hear them calling?  --    Denial is a crime.
You could hear if you’d just listen.  Listen while there’s time.
You only hear if you will  listen.  Listen while there’s time.

Hi Verlon,

reminds me of Dylan at his best, a very big compliment.

My only suggestion would be to change the chorus slightly. To me "Can you hear them madam?, Can you see them sir?" sounds stronger. Repeating the Can you reinforces the message that the winds of war are coming.

I know lyrics are usually very personal so feel free to ignore me if you disagree.

Are you planning on putting them to music and time soon?

    Hi Verlon,
Nice one, can see this being powerful when put to music. I can see where Diadem is coming from, with the Dylan comparison. I hear it in lines like "Blowing across the land, delivering a cold, hard rain"
Wish someone would compare me to the old goat.

Hello HTM,

Like the song, some American vernacular escapes me, but I do `get it`.

I will keep an ear out for this should you decide to put a tune to it, would like hear it.

A.  Thank you for the huge compliment.

B.  I had it that way and changed it.  I never really felt good about the change, and you have talked me into changing it back.  I'm pretty sure you are right.  Felt kind of like changing my answer on a test.  First instinct is usually the best.  Notice that I also took your other bit of advice and added some repetition to the "winds of war" to make it a bit more relentless.

C.  I have music for it.  I'm not real happy with it, and don't know if I can fix it or not.  I DO like what I'm doing with the vocal melody.  I might do it a-capella and post it to see if anyone has ideas.

Nice one Verlon. My fav line was:

Quote
waves of anger breaking along the shore

great metaphor there!

My gut is telling me the work "winds" is overused but will depend on the music I suppose..

I'm hearing heavy metal.

Very perceptive.  It really is a heavy metal sound.  I didn't know it myself until you mentioned it, but it's a very downtempo Heavy metal sound I'm trying to put together.  I seldom think of genre.  I Just try to find appropriate music and I don't worry about what genre it fits into.  In this case, it is in fact heavy metal sounding.

Sorry to take so long to respond.  Thank you for the complimentary review.  AND... be careful about wishing someone would compare you to an "old goat."  Some wishes come true.  'o)

But seriously, it IS an extremely gratifying comparison, and I am appropriately grateful that you can hear a bit of Dylan in the lyric.

Thank you John.  I'll probably do a "near a capella version in which I turn the music down to just a very small presence.  I don't think my music does justice to the lyric.  I do like my own vocal treatment and vocal melody, so the "near a capella" might be the best way.  Might just do it full a capella too.

THANK YOU for the complimentary review.  I'm doing my best to not get a fat head over the Dylan comparisons.  Might have to see a "headshrinker."  'o)

Seriously, it's an extremely flattering comparison for which I am extremely grateful.

I've been listening to this after posting it..... and while it is a bit of a "heavy metal" sound, it's very light for heavy metal.  Perhaps a "medium metal" sound.
