We recently had some suggestions for a "better bond movie theme" (apparently been done before years ago) and for a "happy love song" (why is melancholy so much easier?).

I think new colaborations is also a good thing for competitions.

I'm not sure how these things come to life but possibly with some enthusiastic promotion, and support from some of the forum heavy hitters, it could be time for another one. Maybe put your ideas up and see if which of them attract some interest?

I really like the idea of a "happy love song" competition. I wonna do it, but don't really know how to push it.

I was reading on another thread about the lack of quality environment song, ie, earth song, big yellow taxi, and hard pushed to find many others of that calibre, perhaps that could be an idea for a competition.

Bumping a thread from way back because I like the idea of different competitions, I think it keeps creativity fresh. Here are some of mine:

Cover another forumites song in a different style (ok, not strictly songwriting but could be fun)
Bare Bones - submit a song with only one vocal and one instrument
Collaboration - speaks for itself
Submit a song with just three chords

Any else up for something like this?

I say let's do it - the last competition was amazing with 20 entries and loads of creativity.

Personally I like the bare bones idea - could get even more entries if the bar is set low and also makes it more about the song not the production skills... We'd have to design a handicap to stop Delboy walking off with the win though... ;-)

Maybe check with Boydie whether anything new planned in the forum revamp but I'd help organise if wanted.

Yeah...I could do with something to spark myself back into writing.

Great idea! Let's do another comp...

Some sort of limitation, like only 3 chords would be good. Or in 3/4 as we get too much 4/4 in the forum.

The other idea I had recently was Murder Ballads. Good for stretching your storytelling.

A 3-chord murder ballad with one voice, one instrument and 2 different time signatures!
This is definitely an interesting enough idea to get me to try it!

How about a song that deals with the environment  8)
                                       or
A song of protest.....be it political, religious, civil, or whatever >:(

that could be fun!!

count me out if its protest songs unless i can do one protesting about protest songs

couldnt  we do something totally different to a normal competition ...where someone writes about 30 seconds worth of song & then passes it on to the next person who listens to it & takes it seamlessly in the direction they want for about the same length & then passes it on to the next etc ...so you end up with a real forum group effort full of ingenious twists & turns
if theres a lot of people interested you could split it into teams
it could even go round more than once so people get 2 goes at adding to it
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

I love that idea but it seems more of a forum project than a competition. I would definitely be up for it though, it could even turn into a proper rock opera (with folk, jazz, ethereal, pop and all the other added).
