First draft really, most of the tracks has to be re-recorded and not much of a mix yet but still enough to hopefully get some feedback. A tad heavier than usual but not that much I think. All suggestions welcome before I make the final recordings and go into mix-until-you-loose-your-mind mode  ;D ;D ;D

A NATION RULED BY FEAR

INTRO
We've been staring into the darkness
now darkness is staring back into us
and the monsters that we're fighting
have almost made monsters out of us
desperate measures
for desperate times
fire with fire
an eye for an eye

CHORUS
This nation once was built on hope
now it's a nation ruled by fear
we've lost out values
lost our core
lost compassion and remorse
in a nation ruled by fear
Where once our fathers stood so tall
we find ourselves petty and small
we've lost out values and our core
lost compassion and lost remorse
in a nation ruled by fear

VERSE
The smoke from burning tires
the sound of breaking glass
as we close our eyes
the suburbs are on fire
the prophets of destruction
preaching in the night
desperate measures
for desperate times
fire with fire
an eye for an eye

CHORUS

VERSE
As we fought the war on terror
we built ourselves a cage
as we gave up our rights
and our crimes against humanity
a higher cause was called upon
to justify
desperate measures
for desperate times
fire with fire
an eye for an eye

CHORUS

SOLO

Ah, my bad. Updated the link in the original post so it should work now.

A big awesome and terrifying song, it's good now so can not wait to hear the finished piece..'cept I can't see what you could do to improve it...maybe just tighten it up a bit but it's there innit? :)

best, Kevin :)

Great song, not huge amount to suggest, except for:

1. I like the kick into double time after verse one, although the drums feel a bit lonely. I'd make sure they have bass and guitar backing up the luck drum
2. Verse two is very nice, love the rhythm. Make sure you nail the parts here, otherwise they could end up quite messy (as they are here)
3. Chorus again needs to be completely tight and locked down.
4. Vocal could do with some variety. How about doubling, perhaps also one up the octave?

Other than that, love the song. The "eye for an eye" lyric might be a but cheesy, but not sure what you'd replace it with. Good luck with the final recording...

I was doing the Song of the Month when I heard this first time.  Didn't feel like I should get too involved in any responses beyond just generic statements that I liked them.

If I'm not mistaken, you are a new (and better) version from what I first listened to.

I think it's an absolutely brilliant song.  I think it's an absolutely brilliant lyric in particular.  Love the message and the performance of the message.

A very NECESSARY song.

Hi jambrains, fantastic song! Great lyrics, great arrangement and playing - I love this style of music and you've got it nailed!
One question, how do you get such good drum tracks on your songs? I've noticed it before and I'd really appreciate any tips you can share 😀

First of all.. great mastering, this is a much hotter mix than I can achieve.
Good crisp piano at the start.
Three very different styles going on in this song which is a refreshing change especially as you pull the transitions off nicely.
The bass seemed to be slightly lacking in some  of parts but that may well be down to my little speakers.
Nice song though. I particularly liked the melancholy ending which contrasted nicely with the aggressive choruses.
Strong lyrics throughout. Good stuff.
Cheers
Mo

Guys, thanks a lot for the feedback!
I had more or less walked away from this one. As far as I remember it sucked pretty bad when I left it. However, after your positive comments I had another listen and found that it indeed has potential. I guess the main problem is that it's to much going on from time to time and things are not tight enough (but this was a quick demo after all).
Anyway, I'll will give it another shot. I'll be back.... ;D

@GTB: Main ingredient is Steven Slate Drums and then the usual processing. I'm working on a video where I'll show how I work with drums. Keep your eyes on the Never Mind To Keep thread over at the kitchen, I will post it there.
