It seems like an age since I joined the forum and at that time I joined for one reason and one reason only...

As some of you may recall, I have a bucket list of stuff to do before I die and one of the items on the list was to write a set of lyrics and have them put to music and recorded.

Below are those first lyrics that I offered up for critique and collaboration, but unfortunately was unsuccessful in securing a collaborator who was willing to take them on.

Some months down the line and after quite a few collaborations with a variety of people, I was wondering whether anyone would help me realise my initial dream by collaborating with me on the lyrics that set me on this crazy lyric writing journey.

I understand the lyrical content is somewhat controversial, but thought I would ask anyway.

VERSE
If God doesn't like the way I live,
Let him tell me, not you.
If God doesn't like the life I lead,
I'd like to hear his point of view

From heaven, sounds of silence
No light that shines above
Absent as he's always been
In his city, of brotherly love

CHORUS
So you clasp your hands in prayer
To a myth that doesn't care
And no one hears your call
Because he’s the greatest lie
The greatest lie of all...

VERSE
Whilst we watch our children, suffering
We watch his servants prosper
Little more than a fairytale
The worlds concealed imposter

In blind faith you seek the answers
From a being that ignores
Little more than smoke and mirrors
The cause of endless wars

CHORUS
So you clasp your hands in prayer
To a myth that doesn't care
And no one hears your call
Because he’s the greatest lie
The greatest lie of all...

VERSE
Hands held high we hail a creator
To marvel at what he’s done
A world of hate and misery
Wrapped in a web,  we have spun

So wake up, smell the roses
Not created by his hand
Live your life for the moment
As there is no promised land

CHORUS
So you clasp your hands in prayer
To a myth that doesn't care
And no one hears your call
Because he’s the greatest lie
The greatest lie of all...

MIDDLE 8
You keep believing
I’ll keep evolving
The way to see by faith
Is to shut the eye of reason

CHORUS
So you clasp your hands in prayer
To a myth that doesn't care
And no one hears your call
Because he’s the greatest lie
The greatest lie of all...

I'm up for it!

How do you want it to sound? - any genres in mind?

Hey Boydie

Thanks for the offer, I'm honoured...

I have no  pre conceived ideas about how I want it to sound to be honest. Alli those who have collaborated with me so far have tended to choose what they're most confusable with and what they think works best with the lyrics.

Some of my musical influences are in no particular order, The Beautiful South, Blind Melon, Supertramp, Rossington Collins Band, Cosby Stills Nash and Young, Paul Simon, Paul Wellor, and anything with a blues feel to it.

The only genre that doesn't really float my boat is country.

I'm sure that's been no help at all, so please feel free to do whatever you fancy.

I'm pretty flexible with regards to you playing around with the lyrics and please let me know if you need me to tweak or rewrite anything.

Many thanks for taking this on...

Boydie

That is helpful - so not Country  ;)

I will have a play around - I am thinking Bluesy, with a sprinkling of the Beautiful South, a spoon full of Blind Melon, and a dash of Paul Simon

If you can pull that off, you've got a hit on your hands  ;D

I thought I had replied  ???

I have had some strange internet issues recently

I have slightly remixed it so give me a shout if you want a CD quality version and I will make it downloadable

It should be good to go

Give me a shout when you have it - or if you want to leave it downloadable?

I have left it as a private link as I don't want anything religious (or "anti-religion") on my public Soundcloud

Which is ironic as it was the controversial lyrics that grabbed my attention!

Got it thanks Boydie...

The decision is purely yours as to whether to leave it available to others, I really don't mind either way.

Fully understand your decision to keep it private, when I first posted the lyrics for review some considerable time ago, I received a few personal messages that were less than complimentary about the subject matter.
