Just saw this (not sure how new it is):

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-songwriters

There are a few unusual nuggets in here. But Bjorn & Benny at 100? Dylan at 1? Bomb in the room??

It's just one persons opinion who obviously is not being objective in his/her assessment..

the ABBA guy's (whether one likes em or not) have to be in the top 10 at least purely on account of their success,

wonder what criteria was used..clearly not success, it seems

Yes I saw that and thought what the fudge… In what world can Abba be lower in the list than Radiohead or REM or Bjork? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love those bands, but Abba is songwriting royalty, everyone knows that. And ok, I don't really like REM, but you get my drift.

Also, where was Neil Finn? Rufus Wainwright? Ray LaMontagne? If the list has Kanye West in it, then I think there's room for a bit of Kate Bush, no?

Basically, the article is bollocks. There. I said it :p

Can't believe Taylor Swift is above me in the list, let alone artists with talent.

The very fact that Kayne West is in the list tells us the compiler of the list knows nothing of the history of songwriting...Kayne West indeed..just ridiculous!!!

The top 4 works for me, even if they are not to your personal taste their influence is undeniable.

The rest is just take a pick out the hat and re-arrange to personal taste. But for me no Ryan Adams shows they haven't really got a clue about songwriting  :)
