Well, this little number just happened to be recorded at the weekend based on an idea I had some time ago. Just a first take. Could have something to do with the fact that I've just got a new guitar  :)

I'll post the lyrics shortly...

Any comments much appreciated. It's far from a complete piece, just ideas really.

Many Thanks

John

Love the chilled vibe. I think the muted horns before the chorus work well, could bring them more into in my opinion.

Nice 'American Pie' quote  :)

I'd probably keep the guitar noodling to a minimum when the vocals are leading, however that could be a stylistic decision?

You could repeat "I'm constantly wondering" in the outro if you wanted to strengthen the main hook?

Hope these thoughts are useful

Great Oli. Thought about the Wondering line echoing into next verse. Much appreciated. Far too much guitar doodling as you say  :)

Sounds great, I agree with Oli, I like the muted horns and the "red carnation in my pick up truck". Lovely laid back feel. I found the vocal a bit difficult to distinguish in the mix but it's sounds very good. Nice chord sequence and good melody. The guitars are great on this one. Look forward to hearing it when it's done.

Great vibe to this John, I'm guessing your new guitar isn't a Flying V  ;)

Sounds very promising...a style of music I'm very fond of.

the word "constantly" could probably be replaced by something softer like "always" but at this stage, that's the only thing I could find that wasn't (Bing) bang on

Best wishes...go for it!

Nice chill-out vibe as has been said.
Liked the guitar diddling myself - seemed to fit and the rhythm guitar carried the progression well.
I wasn't a fan of the wah-wah piece - is that a synth horn? I couldn't make out the lyrics much - maybe a drier vocal would help there and maybe too many lines start with "I" or maybe I misheard!

Looking forward to the polished gem!
Paul

Hi,
I love this type of music so from the start i was hooked! I wish it was a little slower paced as i think the guitar would really suit it.

Love the lyrics, and i agree with the previous comment regarding with the reference to "American Pie" 😊

loved this, would like to hear it without echo on the voice, think it could sound better being a raw voice, must say I feel very humble being able to comment on something so musically perfect.

Hi PJ,

Do you mind posting the lyrics? Can't hear every word well
(I'm deaf and dutch haha).
Sounds great to me.. Way to much reverb on the vox for me,
but I believe you intended it this way for this style.
Maybe filter some of the reverb away with low- and high-
pass filters so they don't mask the instrumental too much?
Sounds nicely timed with a bit of swing.
When I listen (not regarding the production) I really love
the musicianship in this one. Could easily hear this be
played live in a club.
Well done and hope I was helpful!

Reckon you should lose the singing in an oil can effect rather quickly, makes everything you sing almost unintelligible..
good laid back sound..doodling seems ok to me but I think it needs a chorus..there seems to be nothing memorable about it at the mo...
