Can anyone recommend a good course to do. I don't want to spend a fortune as it's only for my own recordings at home. Thanks

Dont do it! The internet, recording forums, perhaps the odd book and practice practice practice is the only way. Courses are a waste of money.
RecordingReview is a good place to get advice on recording

lols thanks, is an older one. (well, older relative to the ones we just finished and are recording). Thought about putting up on songwriting reviews here, but decided against.
Seriously though, you would be far better reading a little bit then spending your money on good gear rather than a course. A good pair of monitors, a rented room in which to record, a mixer, whatever!

There's  a lot of people and "schools" that teach courses that will be more than happy to take your money, but everything I've learned I've gotten through working hard and talking to professionals.  I've been surprised how many audio-engineers and producers I met that were never formally educated but simply had a teachable mind!  In this field, experience and practice are more important than formal education.  If you are wanting classes, though, REALLY take classes.  I'd recommend a school like Berkley or IPR.  Some others that cost a little less and take less time would be: SAE and Full Sail University.  I hope that helps!
