I hope you enjoy
American
I was born in a village west of city of Glasgow
there wasn't no glamour just a hunger for all
I heard about a place way over there across the sea
it sounded like just the ticket to me and I said I'd go
I didn't pack any bags, a hundred to exchange
and a big old ruined guitar case to take around
trying to learn the sounds that appealed to me
I headed to the south first to hit the ground
Well I am not much of an American
I love the music but I can't stand the greed
Lord help me I have got to leave
In Alabama I saw a man hang by his neck
just because of the colour that they seen
I headed north to New York for a little while
Jersey helped me along but man the poverty
Do not get me wrong, I love the songs
that taught me everything that I seem to know
should put some of the love you write about
into the streets so that we all get along
Well I am not much of an American
I love the music but I can't stand the greed
Lord help me I have got to leave
