 HEY GUYS

this is a lyric i played around with after watching this video of the Beatles
i went right back to a very young John Lennon & Paul Mccartney

          NAMES IN LIGHTS
           ------ = = ------

 apples from the garden
 speckled drops of rain
 love and frilly curtains
 soothed a young mans pain

 sitting in the bedroon
 picking out the chords
 partnerships soon blossomed
 into pictures on the walls

 first guitars and wide eyes
 pen to paper songs dried
soon you'll make the girls cry

names in lights will never die
names in lights will never die

 hello john, hello paul
join the band we'll have a ball
 hello paul, hello john
lets get together and write a song

 echoes from the bathroom
 sessions in the porch
 acustcs sounded better there
like the rock n roll records

there goes the penny lane bus
 into the heart of liverpool
 heads filled up with lyrics
 dreams and brand new tunes

pick up the screwed up paper
that there's a work of art
love me do and twist and shout
 eleanor rigby's old graveyard

 first guitars and wide eyes
 pen to paper songs dried
soon you'll make the girls cry

names in lights will never die
names in lights will never die

 hello john, hello paul
join the band we'll have a ball
 hello paul, hello john
lets get together and write a song

 number 20 forthlin road
 sash windows painted cream
a young boy playing queeny eye
until he's shouted in for tea

Nice write, evocative, i see it it black and white. But that just means i'm old. But thank god i was young enough to be around, and collect the bubblegum cards. The only thing i'm not comfortable with, "Pen to paper the songs dried" That doesn't roll off the tongue my friend. But apart from that "Let it be".

Good one Tony
I'm hearing a Beatles tune just reading it.
Got that Liverpool vibe and images at least how we perceive them in Canucksville!
Not sure I understood the last verse though.
Thumbs up from me!
Paul

Very nice write, but not quite in the league of "white piano" , still good though.

Hi Tony,

I'm a Beatles fan so I knew about all the stuff you mentioned.

It also made a difference to the images I got.

Personally, this lyric is crammed with scenes and imagery for me.

Really nice from a Beatle fan standpoint.

Alan.

    Hi Tony
I always love your lyrics   &  heres my  two-pennies worth  for you my friend :)

  Hello John,Hello paul

It was Johns band initially (The  quarrymen)    &     ' Hello Paul,Hello George'  would sound
   historically accurate.

Eleanor Rigbys old graveyard          I think shes fictional?

      'Strawberry fields &  old graveyards'

I grew up  'With The Beatles'  music & learnt guitar  in this way inspired by them.....Tony Sheridan
Who  recorded  'My Bonnie' With The early Beatles (THE BEAT Bros) with Pete Best on drums prior to Ringo,  Was  my friend & he died  3 years ago.   anyway........

As aforementioned   Your lyrics are always great.......Thought you could look at these  two lines

                                                                    Cheerzzz  Bud  :)  stylus  :)

Tony, love the concept, I'm a huge Beatles fan as well.
Enjoyed the the opening lines which were evocative yet not that specific.
Later on you get more specific from the Hello John, Hello Paul bits.
So musically the earlier elements I could connect to John or George, whereas the later lyrics I'm thinking Paul..

Hey man.
It's nice to read a song where you feel passionate enough to write in homage to a band, especially as it's the Beatles :)
Some nice simple lyrics, like early Beatles numbers of their own and can feel a beat as you read.
If you've not seen it, get hold of Nowhere Boy, amazing film of Johns early life up to meeting Paul and George.

I really like this one Tony. Its got a real early Beatles vibe for sure, I love the 'hello paul, hello john and hello john/hello paul' parts- could be a great hook if put to the right melody and is actually the kinda hook lennon and mccartney would've penned themselves back in the day. I love how this one contrasts very image rich verses with a simple yet brilliant chorus. Adds a great dynamic to the lyric. Hope you've got someone working on turning this into a song as I'd love to hear it :)

 HEY GUYS

so many great responses on this lyric

VINTAGE54,     thanks for your very kind words glad you enjoyed this

TOMCROCUS    thank you for your very kind words too and taking the time

PAULSKI,        the last verse relates to Paul mccartney saying he played a game
on the streets called queenie eye as a youngster
something all brits will relate to games like MAY I, kick can a lurky
or footy till being shouted in for tea
20 forthlin road was his address before making it big
the windows are sash and cream, check it out thanks man hope it help

SERIOUSFUN   yeah WHITE PIANO is very special to me glad you like though bud

ALAN STARKIE  just a comment from you makes my day
but to say you get the song and liked it made my year
one day bud you might be tempted to collab on one of mine
my fingers are crossed, thanks mate means a lot to me

STYLUS          hey bud i know what you're saying about the HELLO thing but i chose
this to be based on PAUL & JOHN
i suppose you can go on and on but this is based on those two meeting
Eleanor riggby was a real person but there is doubt about whether
the actual song is about her though John & Paul used to sunbath
near to where she was buried so Paul remarked on how it could have been
his sub conscience where he got it from, father Mackenzie
was actually father mccartney but he changed it cos fans might think
he was talking about his own dad,  THANKS BUD ALWAYS MEANS A LOT

NEIL C         sorry mate i just wanted this to be new information for some
his aunt used to pick apples in there garden at MENDIPS
and he loved her pies & the love and frilly curtains is something John
said he missed while away touring
thanks so much mate always means a lot to get your feed back

PEPPERMINT  thank you for your lovely feed back glad you enjoyed it

PAULMCLAY  thank you BIG WELCOME so glad you enjoyed this lyric
i'd  love some one to have a go at putting this to music
thanks bud will look out for you

SING4ME88  WOW MADE MY DAY THOSE COMMENTS
so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your kind words

I love this kind of song.  I've written several myself.  Mine are never as good as this.

Like Seriousfun, I think this fall short of "White Piano" but it's still very solid and good.  And "White Piano" set the bar pretty darned high.
