Cheers guys.
I'm 3 years into my publishing mission now.
The ratio of successes to rejections is very...very........very small BUT an attitude of never EVER giving up gets you somewhere at some point.
For anyone interested in the pitching process this is how I've moved forward :
2012 :
Joined PRS for music.
Signed publishing deal with US publisher - no success.
Signed songs to Nashville licensor - one song licensed.
Signed publishing deal with Danish publisher - small success with corporate/web use.
2013 :
Signed publishing deal and record deal with US publisher - turned bad and pulled out of any further business along with 2 other songwriters.
Joined The Guild of International Songwriters and Composers - left after one year.
Had a song used in UK TV soap 'Hollyoaks'.
2014 :
Signed publishing deal with Australian publisher.
Signed publishing deal with US publisher.
2015 :
Signed publishing deal with US publisher (this thread).
This is were I am after a huge amount of effort and time.
THREE YEARS HARD WORK and a tiny taste of success BUT I'm in contact with people who can do things and I've given them a reason why it's worth (at least) listening to songs I send them.
I'm happy where I am at the moment. Not successful, not rich. But happy with the direction.
There have been lots of small offers/deals but none worth mentioning.
'There by me' was a song I signed with Sentric but then withdrew because of interest from a 'real' publisher.
It's ironic that Sentric are the only real TV success I've had up to now and absolutely anyone can go to their site and sign songs to them. They're exclusive but you can get a release within about 30 days if/when you want.
So that's where I'm at.
If you've got something you believe in and do the best you can - you'll get somewhere.
I don't know where exactly. But you'll get there.
Hope this is of interest/useful.
BTW - this new deal is one year, 50/50 non-exclusive.
