This is a long article. I phased out a little in places as it is rather dry too.

Two quotes that piqued my interested however:

"The top 1 percent of bands and solo artists now earn 77 percent of all revenue from recorded music, media researchers report. And even though the amount of digital music sold has surged, the 10 best-selling tracks command 82 percent more of the market than they did a decade ago. The advent of do-it-yourself artists in the digital age may have grown music’s long tail, but its fat head keeps getting fatter."

"But while fans can burrow deep into rabbit holes of esoterica, “Today’s Top Hits” is still the No. 1 playlist on Spotify, and Pandora’s most popular station is “Today’s Hits.” Even when offered a universe of music, most of us prefer to listen to what we think everyone else is hearing."

Neither are surprising. The latter actually backs up one of my thoughts on my spotify thread... "The New Radio" perhaps...

Sounds interesting-slash-depressing!

I like this quote

The advent of do-it-yourself artists in the digital age may have grown music’s long tail, but its fat head keeps getting fatter."

Might write a song called "Fat head keeps getting fatter"  ;D

Sounds like a Smiths song  ;D.....yes all this data that you can find on the web is sobering reading. ...but I still think if you have the right talent ...you can get yourself heard and noticed in ways that were impossible a few years ago.
