***EDIT - WORK STARTED ON STUDIO RECORDING - SONG IN FINAL STAGES OF WRITING***

‘Got a Thing’

You know I’ve got a thing
You know I’ve got a thing
Whoa oh you know I’ve got a thing
Got a thing for you

I’m alive
Got a heart that’s pumping through my veins
I’m on fire
And I want to walk to you through the flames

You know I’ve got a thing
You know I’ve got a thing
Whoa oh you know I’ve got a thing
Got a thing for you

I've got thoughts I can't hide
The closer that you get
Little beads of sweat
On my face
No escape from this place
That I find myself
A kind of secret hell
And I want to kiss and tell

I’m a fly
Got a thousand little eyes to watch you move
I won’t be denied, no
I’m a needle that won’t jump outside the groove

You know I’ve got a thing
You know I’ve got a thing
Whoa oh you know I’ve got a thing
Got a thing for you
Got a thing for you

I've got thoughts I can't hide
The closer that you get
Little beads of sweat
On my face
No escape from this place
That I find myself
A kind of secret hell
And I want to kiss and tell

You know I’ve got a thing
You know I’ve got a thing
Whoa oh you know I’ve got a thing
Got a thing for you

You know I’ve got a thing
You know I’ve got a thing
Whoa oh you know I’ve got a thing
Got a thing for you
Got a thing for you

Only yesterday i was on YT..watching some music industry vids...and one of the guys connected with Taxi  said in reference to 'retro' sounding music..it's ok to do , but you need to pay attention to the phrasing..make sure it's contemporary with whats around now.........just saying man  ;)

But it sounds pretty funky...

I guessed that mate! Bruno and all that....retro is perfectly ok....but it's got to sound 2014 not 1984 thats all.....

Read the ;lyrics and I'm thinking Macca.
But no a funky number with a great fatback beat, love the dual vocals and some great brass.
Kind of want you to take it to a bridge and need a chorus with a stop, to bring you back to your verse.
Thought Mark Ronson then read the comment....
Look forward to hearing where you take this, your first top 10 hit perhaps?
 :) :) :)

Very cool. Lovin' the funky Kravitz-doing-American-Woman vibe.

Things I liked:

Nice sweet production value. Clearly not your first rodeo.
This really got under my skin. I was dancing in my chair-as much as my old white fat butt could do.
Nice vocal and guitar work.
Very hooky. I'll have to sing Mana Mana for an hour to get this one out of my head.
This is a HUGE thing: your use of             silence        is brilliant.

Things I would look at:

I really didn't care for the baritone sax thing in the break. I think it was just too loud though. It seemed to get in the way.

-By the second chorus I needed something new. For example: chorus 2, only give us your hook line twice instead of 4 times. It's already getting a bit monotonous by that point.
-After the break(and you've lowered that that bari sax...) come back into the chorus, but give us something completely different- like sing it twice with just voice and drums, or throw in a guitar/sax/kazoo/didgeridoo/cats meowing/ solo instead of the vocal.
-Do you realize in a 3 minute song, you say, "you know I've got a thing," with the same melody line and essentially the same instrumentation 24 times. After about 12 I'm done. It really needs some variation, like every second line of the chorus sung to a different melody, or different words. Yes, I know James Brown says, "get up offa that thing," a lot of times, but there is talking and hooting, and other musical breaks, and...well...he's James Brown. He can do whatever he wants and nobody will ever accuse him of being boring or monotonous(and he'd have beaten the crap out of you if you did...).

My two red pills.
As always, the trash is to the left.
Keith

I really like it. I know it's not very constructive but I didn't hear anything that I find overdone or irritating It's one I'll keep coming back to. Nice one.   :D
