Writing jazz

(1/1)

Sonic-r:
Like a fool I decided to have a go at writing a jazz song. I like listening to jazz and thought it must be easy: just play all the wrong notes.

(That last sentence isn't true!)

I can't decide whether to go down the John Coltrane/Thelonious Monk route or a more orchestral Burt Backache / Latin jazz, a bit like this: &feature=related

Anyone else tried to get to grips with the voodoo of jazz?

Chris

massa:
I used to play my trumpet in jazz and big bands.  ;D

Can't stand the stuff though!

Sonic-r:
Philistine.  ;)

Dutchbeat:
not a huge fan of jazz, and it is extremely difficult to play. One really has to master the instrument and music theory to be able to make the out of the box variations it needs, with the sort of 'easiness' it also requires.
Listening to your music Sonic, which i like and value very much, you know that, I think you have taken on a very challenging task  :o.

I admire a guy who is not scared for big challenges  ;) and I certainly don't want to discourage you :-X
but this is really something...when you are computer / synthesizer music making dude (like I am)

Good luck!

massa:
I might play my trumpet on my next song, lol. If I can remember the fingering.  ;)
