As you know, the music scene is full of 'opportunities' for writers, some of which are highly dubious. So I'm very careful when it comes to people posting them on my forum.

But I'm happy to keep this thread if you're happy to add a post giving more in depth information to any members who may want to take part.

Thanks :)

Well, if not "most" than "many" songwriters want recognition and publicity. I dare to say that our contest is the first one where professional and amateur songwriters can get a direct cut on an upcoming record by a well-known artist. Five of them, actually.

This can be very easily verified, Tone, by contacting our co-organiser - Andrew Lane.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Lane_(record_producer)

Please see his personal FB page: https://www.facebook.com/andrew.lane.16?fref=ts

or contact him via mail listed on his website: http://www.drewrightmusic.com/Drew_Right_Music/Contact.html

All of the five artists are from Andy's roster, he's responsible for their material, hence the idea for this competition.

Now, yes...we do have the submission fees, but:

a) It's a commercial project
b) Each entrant is given a one-week free trial at www.songquarters.com and may use it independently of the contest
c) 25 Bucks for TWO songs is not that much comparing it to other contests' fees.
d) Each contestant will get a reply with the opinion about his/her tracks from our judges; Leonidas Chantzaras and Andrew lane.

And yep, the website could be better, I know, but at the end of the day it's the content that matters.

25 Bucks for TWO songs is not that much
So we're paying you $125/hr to listen to our songs (3 mins to listen, 3 mins to write some notes on it - 10 songs per hour). Sounds like we'd be financing your search for material.
No thanks
Paul

Hey Paulski,

I'm under the impression that your inner skeptic feels offended by us requiring the fees.

As I already mentioned above, we just want to give the "outside" songwriters a chance to get a cut on the records. We're not "searching" for material, we're just doing the pitching for you - that's the main difference. The material would be there anyways.

SongQuarters in NOT a non-profit organisation, what's more, the industry has turned music into something that's not a common asset anymore. You may or may not participate in our contest, but your fight with the reality of the industry being - de facto - a moneymaker is noble, however pointless.

BUT...

Somebody WILL win the contest, my friend and somebody's tracks will be recorded.

Best of wishes in your other projects, Paulski.

Paul.
