Hi people, how's things?

I've been out of the game for a while now due to a broken laptop but I'm considering buying an ipad.

My question is, is it possible to run my Samson G Track microphone through the ipad?

I've done some googling and it looks like it may be possible if I use a powered USB hub (the g track has built in audio interface and requires power from the USB) but nowhere does it really say WHAT ACTUAL bits I'd need to buy in order to get it all working. Also, I'd like to use my midi keyboard as well, has anyone done this with an ipad or do you just have to use the touchscreen for keyboard stuff?

My final question, does anyone know if Reaper will work on an ipad? Or does it have to be garageband?

Long time no speak

I have now got an ipad so have previously investigated the options...

The normal route is to connect a device that allows you to connect via XLR - either through the headphone socket ( not ideal as it goes through the ipad pre-amp) or via the lightning socket

These devices can also have MIDI sockets so you can hook up keyboards

I am not sure about connecting via USB - I would investigate the "camera connection kit" which is the only way I know of connecting a USB device to an ipad, this might help with your "googling"

There are quite a few "app"DAW options depending on what features you want

If/when I take the plunge to record on my ipad I will be going for "Cubasis", which is based on the hugely popular Cubasis: http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/mobile_apps/cubasis.html

This seems really powerful and perhaps even overkill for my needs as I would simply record to the ipad and export so I do the proper work in SONAR (my main DAW)

Ipad camera connection kit is good but

The effectiveness of the attached hardware depends on the power drawn from the unit. Most need too much which the ipad can't supply. If you can run to it get an alesis idock. Has stereo inputs, preamps with jack and Xlr inouts, stereo out plus midi connectivity, headphone out. I love my idock. Costs around 150 quid not much more than a camera connection kit and a decent USB mic, assuming you already have a mic.
