Hey All

Well it took some time but I finally decided to advertise....check out the site, the samples and I promise I'll give all members a good deal

https://soundbetter.com/profiles/5387-tmr-productions

Right now it's mixing only but in a couple of months it'll be a full production midi suite and OD studio.

Rates start at $75 a song for 16 racks or less (four minutes max) with three revisions and scale up from there...of course if it's a guitar vocal thing I certainly won't hit you for full pop.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask

All the best

Good luck DON

The studio is looking really nice

I would love to see your "gear list" - both hardware and software

I think you should also consider some "before & after" mixes that demonstrates your "magic"

Will you also be offering a "mastering" service? - I always think that this is a potential market for someone setting up like yourself

Most people can have a good stab at recording/mixing at home but a good mastering process can add that professional sheen to a demo and I think you would also open up your potential market

Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope this is a great success for you

I have a second soundcloud page that houses a number of before and after mixes.

I'm really leery about Mastering. I know a lot of people think they can Master but I know three biggies in the business really well and they are Masters at what they do and unless people can do what they do they aren't Mastering anything.

As for gear a smokin I7 PC with two UAD cards fully loaded sending audio to a secong rig (I5) loeaded with EMU Ensoniq's PARIS harware and software for AD/DA..it too has two UAD cards fully loaded in it and all this stuff gets sent to a pair of ADAMs P33 monitors

My DAW is Reaper, (Paris for the AD/DA),  plugins are - Waves Diamond Bundle, Full Steven Slate Digital Plugins Melodyne Studio (DNA) and of course the UAD stuff plus dozens of other plugs from various manufacturers.

Midi - Roland KMB 300 controller & D50 / Yamaha DTX II E-drum kit, Akai MPC pad controller...Native Instruments Komplete 7, Steinberg Halion / Hypersonic / Slate Drums / Drumagog sample replacement

Mics - Hand made U47 (clone) made with Neumann components - two handmade Gyraf design U47 clones (multi polar pattern)

Lastly my room is a 20 X 10 X 8  acoustically treated mix suite

That pretty well sums up most of the good stuff

i think your rates are reasonable , and the sooner the message gets through on here ,that you need as good a sound as you can, to get your music out there(if thats important to you) and the more seriously you will be taken..Fossie got another top 5 in songwriter universe comp,,and a lot of it is down to a quality produced product...treat your music like food.if you pay a chef to cook up your ideas , then it's going to get a lot more praise. ;)

But does it say this on your advertising?

I would get some direct links up on your page, perhaps with a little bit of "geekery" wording about what you did to the mixes and why it is a good idea to pay you to work your magic

If you are doing this as a business you really need to "sell your wares" and make it as easy as possible for potential customers to see exactly what you can do - especially if they can relate it to their situation

I am guessing your biggest potential market is going to be those that can record a rough "guitar & vocal" (eg on an ipad / iPhone) that do not know how to take their song to the next level

I would think those that are going down the home production route will want to do their own production/mixing (which is why I think there could be an opportunity with the "mastering" approach but I agree this is a specialism and it is refreshing to see you recognise that as well)

I think it would be a good selling point to show a "before & after" of a rough demo that has been remixed and "produced" by you in to something awesome

These are just some "off the top of my head" comments to try and help

I agree with Boydie's last post. If you are not offering a mastering service, perhaps you could establish a relationship with someone you trust who can do mastering at a reasonable price and then link them into your website and they link you into their's. Seems like a sensible way to go.

I just wanted to add...

These are not criticisms at all

I think what you are offering, and the quality of your work, is spectacular

The trick is going to be working out how best to "sell" this to those that don't know your pedigree

Your kit list made me drool all over my keyboard and when I have the right song I will definitely be giving you a shout!!

Hi, I'm a complete novice at recording and a bit of a technophobe. That is why I bought a 'studio in a box'. Could I take my tracks from my box (boss br 1600) and save them to some format that could be sent to someone like you to perform a pro mix?
If I've embarrassed my self by asking a dumb question ,bear with me ???.
Cheers
Jamie

If you can convert your audio files to a format that Reaper can read then the answer is yes

It appears the BR600 has a USB port that allows transfer of audio files to a computer. Once there they would be saved as an audio file (of some sort...your choice) and then could be transferred to someone like me via wetransfer or dropbox or yousendit.

Edited to add - I browsed over the manual and this is covered in Section 5

Jamie....I've got a BR1600. and you can convert your individual tracks to wav files. and either
burn them to a CD and upload them to your PC, or use a USB.  And send them via dropsend, or
something similar......and they can be loaded onto Reaper.  I do it all the time ;D ;D

If you have a problem, let me know ;D ;D

Nowt as queer as folk...........my gran
