Pretty much. Since the music technology boom, you can't get just music accepted to libraries unless it recorded to a high professional standard. That's just what you're up against these days, and one of the main reasons I'm now learning everything I can cram into my tiny brain about music production - because I can't afford to pay for mixing etc every time I commit something to 'tape'
If your recordings stand up as performances, I recommend getting a couple mixed and mastered by a pro - this will give you a clear indication of whether your music can compete with what else is out there, and hopefully give you some motivation to keep chipping away at it.
Back in the day when my father in law used to write library music, he'd send them demos or even scores, and they'd pay for the studio time and orchestra
Glory days, eh?
