Hi guys.
Finally got my space to play sorted out. Whilst giving it a test run I thought I'd run a video cam and do an "Forum Open Mic" Set. No effects, just two mics and a bit of light EQ.

I'm also hoping for a bit of help from you chaps if you can?

Inspired by Tone's one man show I thought about going to one of the many "Open Mics" around the Bournemouth area. However I'm not convinced that my songs work in an unplugged form. I've picked three that I think work best with no added instruments, but of course I'm hearing in my head the missing horns, flutes, piano and in one case, oboe. ;-) This of course makes me a poor judge of my own material.

I'll need quite a few rehearsals to shake the rust off but I like to know what you think about the structure and the dynamics of these tracks. Is there enough going on to keep you interested? Where are the lulls or are they just too similar? Anything that you think doesn't work really or even at what point in the video you stopped it would help.:-)

Hope I'm not asking too much as I haven't been around much lately and apologies in advance about the whistling :-)

Cheers Martin

Hi Martin/ Mihkay

Your voice is great! Reminds me a little of that chap from the Manic St Preachers, your songwriting too. A little, but not so much. I prefer you :)

Gone before the snow is perfect for open mic - melodic, medium tempo, performed well.  I think you'll do yourself proud.
Dead town song - great for open mic so long as it's not in the town you're singing about! Nice rocky feel to this one, I like it.
On the corner, another good candidate for the open mic, really like the melody of the chorus on this one :)

Thanks for sharing Mihkay :D

Hi Martin,

Thanks for posting these, good set here. To me the stand out was Dead Town Song, nice punchy number here.  These have all recorded really well and captured your voice fantastically well.

Well done on thesemate, a great listen to brighten my day.

Hey MIhkay -

Excellent set, really strong voice and three awesome songs.

I have to say Dead Town Song was the strongest for me aswell. You really commited to it and it elavated the performance for me.

I need to get a video camera so I can join in.

Well done - loved it!
