Hi Stylus. I did, indeed write this around an existing piece of music. And it was, indeed difficult to fit the lyric around the music. But until I got the feedback I'm getting here, I was loathe to just write different music for the lyric because I loved the music so.
Now, I'm kind of freed up to do whatever I want. That presumes Mr. Newett will give me my lyrics back.... and I'm pretty certain he will.
Someone else pointed out that the vocal was "fighting the music." It took me a long time to remember it, (because I wrote this in 2009 or thereabouts) but one of the things I liked was the tension between the vocal and the music. Problem is you either LOVE that or HATE it. Nobody just "liked" that tension.
