I use Creative Commons licensing myself for my lyrics - not for co-written lyrics, neither for songs. And - this is very important - I only allow their non-commercial use. Otherwise I would waive any claim on royalties.

It works nicely as long I am the sole lyricist. My lyrics can be used or shared. The resulting songs are a different story. Commercial use is a very different story. The advantage of this approach: I reach many more musicians than I would if I assigned my lyrics a 'water-proof' copyright. Many hobby musicians use my lyrics, and they are free to do so. Several performing artists use my lyrics, and we register our songs with the respective PRO.

CC can be made work, but the basic message of the article is correct: beware! Make sure you know what you're doing.
