wow! Adam, that guy really knows his 'tuning' theory and now I'll be getting ultra paranoid about recording.  I've always been suspicious of all my tuners (especially on the high E) and I do have one of those single rack units so I guess I need to figure out how it works :-)

Here's how I'm tackling Jump without keyboards Mr B:
1 - Capo on 3rd fret, so I can chug that low C (pedal tone) with the rhythm parts.
2 - patience, especially for learning the keyboard solo on guitar.  I break it up, learn a bar at a time slowed down, piece it together bit by bit, the usual method
3 - loads of practice, trying to commit the notes to 'finger memory'
4 - more patience, the tabs I found are not correct - now there's a surprise!
5 - I changed the tab to use different strings as it seemed unplayable in some parts
6 - A technique I use often is to 'mime' playing it alongside the music (guitar volume off).  That helps me to fix the timing, get to the right frets at the right time and also to make sure I am truly listening to what I'm aiming for.
7 - did I mention patience?

Hope these ideas help anyone else attempting such a stupid idea :-)

 hey guys,      HELP!!!!!!!

didn't know weather to start a new thread or carry on with this
but I've noticed that whenever i'm strumming on the guitar
the  PLECTRUM  keeps turning in my fingers
and I've tried everything to stop it but nothing works

WILL THIS EVER STOP OR IS IT NORMAL

How are you holding the plectrum?

I would suggest putting your thumb ACROSS the plectrum and then use your index finger to hold it from the other side

When you get used to it you can grip it tighter for picking and a bit looser for strumming

hey boydie thanks man for your response

yeah I hold it like you say,  when I hold it tight I tend to catch the strings to hard
when I relax it either fumbles out of my fingers or keeps turning
and I find myself having to bring it back interrupting what i'm making a mess of

hope that makes some sense to you mate

Hold somewhere in between "too tight" and "too loose" and you will be set  ;)

There are many picks out there with texture on them to help with this problem, so you are not unique with this issue! Once you get the feel of it, it becomes second nature.

You could try lightly scoring a few lines on the middle of the pic, to add some texture. If your hands sweat a lot that can make it more difficult to hold onto as well. You can also buy little sticky backed cork rings to put on the pick to add grip, but finding the right firmness of hold will help you best in the long run :)

anyone noticed with some plectrums (the soft ones) they  get warm after 20 min playing and feel totally different?  I keep swapping, otherwise I get ocd about which way round I'm holding it because they develop a temporary 'hollow' in one side.

Yep - I've noticed it, but not so much as I've noticed that beyond about half a mm thick, plectrums produce a really flappy tone....

A thicker pick takes some getting used to, but IMO it makes you a better player, because it forces you to relax your hand and not hold on too tight, giving you a better feel in general. Plus, the heavier picks have more warmth.

This video has a lot of info and playing examples :)

 WOW tone,

that's a great link I never even thought you would get
a different result using different types of plecs
i'm still getting comfortable with my cheapo plec that I got with the guitar

I'm just light years behind you guys

I've just been looking into bars like a four count and where the words are played
and filling in some strums if you know what I mean I've prob said it wrong

but i'm actually in love with my guitar I know i'm weird I don't care though
