My Christmas Dream
Copyright © 2011 Tennyson Road Music

Life can get you down
When December rolls around
Skies turn cold and grey
So many bills to pay
But there's a place I know
(I found it years ago)
Where trouble's never seen
In my Christmas dream

{ch}
In my Christmas dream
I'm six years old again
I'm rushing out to see
What Santa brought for me
And everyone is there
My Dad sits in his chair
(and Mom's fixin' her hair)
In my Christmas dream

Winters come and go
As months turn into years
New footprints mark the snow
As old ones disappear
Like forgotten candy canes
Hung on the Christmas tree
I'll see them all again
In my Christmas dream

{bridge}
I wake up alone in this big nursing home
The lady that helps me comes in
She notices I've got a tear in my eye
And she tells me she knows where I've been..

{lift}
{ch}
In my Christmas dream
I'm just a kid again
...rushing out to see
What Santa brought for me!
And everyone is there!
My Daddy's in his chair!
And Love is everywhere!
In my Christmas..
In my Christmas..
In my Christmas dream

Have to agree with Tina on The Beech Boys reference at the end.A lot of effort in those.Love the chord progressions also.

Hi Tinam
Coulda used your guitar skills on it for sure!
Thanks for the kind words - that Liberace part is in 3/4 time - hoping it's not TOO much of a Segway from the theme... And I did ask Brian Wilson, but he was lyin' in bed as usual.
My good friend Mike did the guitar climbs at the end , and the lamer stuff is me.
Best

Excellent, Paul. Brilliant dynamics and that bridge is superb.

A proper classic Christmas song mate.

Good song Paul, love the chord progressions. Your voice works well with this type of song. Got the Beach boys vibe too. Nice lyric.
Cheers

Hi Paulski,

Quite an epic arrangement - lots going on - but it all rolls together in to a nice snowball. I can imagine it as a backing track in a Richard Curtis movie - the bit where everyone gets together and there's a wonderful happy ending.

A very strong contender.

Loved it, you've hit the xmas nail on the head with this and all the extra bits you keep throwing in there, well a xmas song is just the place to do it.
good luck & merry xmas

Homeless Recluse:
Thanks for saying that esp about the bridge - took a bit of a risk there.

Jamie:
Thanks Jamie. I thought maybe an ending like that would be over the top, then I said "what the heck" and did it anyway - always liked the beach boys!

benjo:
Thanks Tony - hope to listen to yours tonight - good luck to you too!

Digger:
Good snowball metaphor - now there's a lyric!
Thanks for the kind words.

GTB
Yeah - no such thing as too campy for a xmas song IMO

Thanks everyone for listening and commenting

... and a Merry Christmas to ALL!

Wow what can I say?

This was a superb classic Christmas song. Loved the lyrics, will really appeal to us older folks. Things like new footprints replacing the old ones really puts some time/space in the feeling of the song.

Loved the arrangement and really good vocals. All around top song mate.

This song should come with a free reindeer jumper.

I love the simple, iterative melody - it makes the song really catchy.

The bridge is fantastic. Major props on that.

And the choir harmonies are really well executed and add exactly the right flavour.

One issue, though: the word "there" arrives on pitch at 3:11 but rides sharp by 3:13. I'm afraid it's a bit of a teeth-grating moment in what is otherwise a gooey Christmas pudding of a listen.

Great song, though.

P.S. Am I allowed to vote or do I need to be open mic first?

Hi Matt
Thanks for the positive comments.
Good catch at 3:13. Actually, I'm gonna blame the lead guitar bending that note at 3:13 (not that I never sing off key hehe) - gotta fix that in the mix - which has other issues that need addressing.
I think you can vote if you have a pulse, but that might not be a requirement - better to ask Tinam..
Cheers!

Thank you Allan. I've heard your stuff, and believe me it means a lot coming from such a talented songwriter. (That footprint lyric was inspired by watching my granddaughter walking in the snow - otherwise it never would have happened!)

All the excellent musicians here are remarking about the specific achievements in you arrangement that I'm not musician enough to even hear or notice.

But man I know I love that piano work.  And the vocal is very well done.  Nice song.
