'Little Train'

Little train won't you make a break
Got to meet my girl and I'm late
I got, new shoes and a happy face
'Cos tonight we're going to leave

She's waiting 'til quarter to three
In a violet dress and a kiss for me
Speed up for the sake of love
Little train you've got to move

Got a ticket and directions to that girl
Twenty five miles left to go
I don't need no fancy Loco to get there
Little Train just don't go slow oh no

Little train won't you make a break
Got to meet my girl and I'm late
I got, new shoes and a happy face
'Cos tonight we're going to leave

She's waiting 'til quarter to three
In a violet dress and a kiss for me
Speed up for the sake of love
Little train you've got to move

Paid my fare and now you're taking me to her
No more red lights on the line
Rolling stock won't slow me down, we're nearly there
Little Train you're doing fine, so fine

SOLO

Got my ticket and directions to that girl
Now there's no more miles to go
I didn't need no fancy Loco to get there
Little Train I think you know, you know

Little train won't you make a break
Got to meet my girl and I'm late
I got, new shoes and a happy face
'Cos tonight we're going to leave

She's waiting 'til quarter to three
In a violet dress and a kiss for me
Speed up for the sake of love
Little train you've got to move
Speed up for the sake of love
Little train you've got to move, yeah

Hi Alan,
Your usual high quality production. The acoustic guitar playing is ace. Liked the harmonies. Nice happy upbeat song with a universal theme. Nice timing for the song of the month ;)
Nice one

Love this! But why's it WIP? It sounds pretty darn perfect to my untrained ear... Are you planning on making any changes?

I particularly love the choogachooga percussion rhythm throughout and the sung choo choo! It appeals to the kid in me i guess! The solo is excellent, and so is your vocal performance.

Superb!   I can imagine this on  Jools Holland  , Its a great track for a live band & has feelgood factor .
The tempo of the song is spot on & the performance, production is of a very high standard.
Just tighten up the ending & you have an absolute gem of a song...Its all good from the lyrics to the instrumentation...............                   Cheerzzzzzz   Stylus :)

@jamie - v cheeky lol

@caco - WIP because all the tracks are done with a mic I use for quick demo ideas.

@stylus - yeah the end is messy but at least I've managed to get the idea down. Song done. Recording to be sorted yet.

Thanks everyone.

This is my favorite Alan Starkie song.  I'm thinking about why.

1.  It's very simple both lyrically and musically.... lets me keep up without a lot of thinking or "hard listening."

2.  It's emotionally simple too.  Just one focus and no real sad or dark parts to drag me down.

3.  The song REALLY captures the anticipation.  Anticipation is one of our more interesting emotions.

4.  The narrator/singer/songwriter is in a position we all can REALLY identify with at any stage of our lives.

Anyway, I REALLY liked this one.

Alan,
You really like this - got real energy with bass, drums and picking guitar - gives it a southern feel.
And the choo choos too. Cool solo too.
Could be my favorite one of yours.
Nice and easy

Thanks @hardtwistmusic -

I wanted this song to be ultra simple and to the point.

@Neil C -

Thanks Neil. I think this song was subliminally inspired by Harry Nilsson and Carl Perkins!

Southern feel? I'm happy with that.

Cheers.

PS - Of all my catalogue, this was picked up virtually straight away by my record company (I only played them this rough demo too).

Harry Nillson and Carl Perkins.  What an interesting pair of influences.  Both incredible musicians and songwriters.  .  .    And on the surface, very different.

Nillson's flowing melodies, and Carl's driving, forceful energy.

Carl Perkins is (was?) a spectacular musician and songwriter with a huge number of great, but little known songs to his credit.  He is sooooo much more than "Blue Suede Shoes" although (at least in the USA) that's pretty much all he's known for.

But this man could play, write, and sing with the best of them.

See what you did.  You got me all worked up.  Thanks.  I like being worked up over great musicians and great music.  "o)

Nice upbeat song. Obviously very well produced demo. Some of the lines don't scan for me, they don't fit into how I'd sing them if it were me, but it's not my song, so that doesn't matter ;-)
