Tell me, what is it like? I'd really like to know much about it.
The trouble I have with USB devices is that you monitor from the computer, it lags by a second or so. Is it good for monitoring as well?

I've got the 2i4 which is basically the same thing with a few more outputs.

So far it's been great.

No noticeable latency at all and that's without messing with any settings. (Although I tend not to record my vocals with foldback, which is what I mainly use it for)

The vocals on all the tracks I've posted on here have been recorded with it, using a £100 condenser mic if you want to get an idea of the sound quality.

It's got a direct monitoring option as well on the off chance that latency was an issue.

Midi has also been flawless so far

If you need any more info, let me know.

I may be wrong but to my knowledge the main cause of latency is in your computer. I turn off the majority of my effects when recording and don't have a problem, though not using this hardware. I find if I have thins running like, waves vocal rider, pitch correction software, or other CPU intensive plugins then latency happens. So my advice is keep your system lean when you record and turn your plugins back on when editing and mixing and you should be fine. I am assuming the focus rite thingy is usb2. Usb1 is not suitable.

Allan.

The above is right, USB itself (if it is 2.0 or above) has no noticeably worse latency for most applications than PCI.
RME (big wigs of digital audio hardware) make a 'fireface UC' model which claims revolutionary low latencies on USB 2.0

Latency issues are generally more due to issues with the compatability of the model itself and your USB port, drivers and how well your computer is setup for audio, which will heavily affect what buffer size you need to set.

I've spent a long time with my (heavily) outdated computer setting it up for optimum performance and while recording, I generally run at 64 samples, which gives me about 2ms latency which is more than unnoticeable. This is with a simple dual-core setup, 4GB Ram and an 8 year old (at least) motherboard...

I have the 2i4 and its good but not got to grips with able ton live yet. At the moment it just sits there running iTunes through near field monitors. Great way to listen to music, but a waste of kit. Also our pc is too noisy so I suspect I need a top range laptop to really use it. For the moment I am sticking with iPad.
