Yes. It is a simple preamp...good for boost's in solos or for boosting the level of e.g. a passive pickup (I use something similar for my acoustic guitar)

no, the input impedance is too high, you need a mic preamp for a mic..

OK .. but the zoom R8 has preamp .. but I have to crank the volume all most to the end to get decent level .. so I thought little boost before the preamp will help ..

so you don't advice it .. Thank Ram ...

The Zoom has mic inputs, but also other inputs, so make sure you are using the mic inputs. These are the XLR inputs.

The XLR inputs are dual XLR and jack inputs, but if you plug in with a jack cable, I think it is actually going unbalanced to high input impedance, which would give a low level, so make sure you are using an XLR cable.

It is normal for dynamic mics to have a slightly lower output than a condenser mic, so you would have to increase the gain on the zoom more. It could be very normal to increase the gain all the way.

It is FAR better to increase the gain on the preamp to get as high level as possible (before distorting) than record quiet and increase the volume in the DAW or mixer

Amplifiers for line level, instrument level and microphone level are quite different at an electronics level as the three things have very different output levels and impedances.

You can't interchange amplifiers between the three. This is why, for example, you need a DI box to plug an instrument ("Hi-Z") into a microphone input on a mixer/preamp. So you cant just interchange them.

The MXR micro-amp is designed to be a guitar stompbox, hence it has instrument level inputs and outputs...

No..but I suppose I could do one for you. I have an existing design for a little preamp.

I need to verify whether it would run with batteries at all (current draw), or if it would need an external power supply.

Wouldn't be as cheap as the micro-amp though.
