Hey forumites!

A track from my EP here. I shared this song last year played on my electric as a YouTube video. A couple of people asked what a straight acoustic version would sound like so here it is, Played on my Gibson Sheryl Crow, live, one take.

I have edited the main picking pattern a little since writing it - it now has a hammer on added in which makes it flow a bit smoother (and more fun to play!). If you already reviewed this song last year feel free to skip, but there are lots of new people on here since then it would seem!

Oh, and of course, the EP is free to download if you like the song at www.jamesnighthawk.com

Ghost Town

In the ghost town
I feel happy
There’s a peace here
That won’t slay me
I know, yes I know, I’m free

In the Ghost town
I will not leave
I’ll dismantle
All that I see
And I hope, that you can prove me wrong

In the ghost town
Where I can sleep
With my eyes closed
Where I can be myself
Without you on my guard

BREAK

In the ghost town
Where my hand creeps
‘Round my own neck
Pray my soul to keep
My trust in me

In the ghost town
I’m the strong man
With the weak heart
And the fake tan
But I, oh yes I, I am still free

BREAK

In the ghost town
I cannot sleep
I can’t hear you
Right beside me…

Hi James,

Sounds great on acoustic. And a Sheryl Crow acoustic to boot (my fave female performer). Lovely tone to it. Slightly dark edge - especially on the little lead bits - works well. Nice vocal.

Cheers,

Liked it a lot..agree that it`s got a dark edge....the vocals came across as natural and not forced....after a bottle of Rioja ...it`s the right mood for this time of night. ::)

James, thanks for sharing, lovely guitar playing and sound. Nice lyrics, good ending, v well performed as you have nowhere to hide with the live recording.
I particularly like the downward chords at the last line of the verses.
The minor to major guitar-ing sounds slightly unsettling but I got the point.

I like it James but i think it would be better if you didn't go into the ghost town with high expectation with your vocals, at the end of each verse is the way the tone of your vocals i think should enter the start of each verse and then leave each verse with the way you're now entering it.

I hope this make sense it just the way im listening to it.

Also a little slower, as if we really are entering a ghost town.   8)

I liked the studio version on the CD but I think this is even better. For some reason it sounds so up close and personal without the extra bits behind it and the guitar play is a tad more intricate with the hammer on and tone you have on it. It just stands up and says 'listen to me'.

Just miss the double on the vocal otherwise this is better imho.

Thanks for sharing with us all.

How good is this!? Rhetorical question there. Love it!
Remember.... it's just my opinion. It doesn't make me right. Although i probably am ;)

Cheers for the comments all :)

@MOSP
I often open my set wth Jenny acoustic. I have an idea for a version with just layered acoustics (playing the bass line higher up for instance) and vocals. Might do it as a bonus track/EP track for Album two release next year :)
