Hey everyone,

Following Booboo's thread in the bar, I thought I'd share this, my first EVER song.

I wrote it when I was about 16, it's inspired by the sad demise of my grandaparents through old age and ill health (all jolly stuff then :) )

I was really chuffed with it at the time and on listening again (when I eventually found it) I actually think it's not too bad, for a first go..

It's in the finished songs section because I haven't touched it for 17 years  :D

The Bitter End

As time goes by you'll find out for certain
That your hopes and your dreams get blocked by a curtain
Things that were possible now seem impossible
And the world is an ever shrinking place

Silently wandering through the old city
Things that you used to do they make you feel giddy
Things that were plausable now seem implausable
And it suddenly dawns on you time is running out

CH
The old world is changing but not for the better and
things become frightening young ones adore them and
Your friends all start leaving, your life is a burden and then
The bitter end
Then the bitter end

Therefore fulfill all your ambitions
Skydive and bungee jump all those positions
Marry a caring girl don't sleep with silly girls
Make sure you do whatever you want

CH
The old world is changing but not for the better and
things become frightening young ones adore them and
Your friends all start leaving, your life is a burden and then
The bitter end
Then the bitter end

I feel like I've started something...

Anyway, I LOVE this!! This is something I would but off iTunes or something, it so beautiful, I especially love the chorus! I love the line "things that seemed possible now seem impossible" stood out for throughout the whole song!

For a first attempt I think this is amazing!!

Aww I love this, it really is beautiful and sad. I was grabbed by the first two lines of the chorus, but the whole thing is really good- in fact it's fabulous for a first attempt! I'd love to say you've improved so much but all your stuff- new or old- seems to be amazing :P

Great 1st song!  I think the poignant lyrics  i.e  old world changing for the worst are  true &  meaningful. nice guitar & you  have sang this with feeling.  cant wait to hear more  :) Stylus

This is a very nature piece of writing for someone so young. Some of the rhyming is a bit clumsy and the choice of words doesn't always work but overall, it's great. Great delivery vocally - very believable and spot on musically.

Has a lovely gentle feel to it with some really good lines in there eg the world changing and shrinking.
It interesting that I wouldn't have know that it was your first one or that its that old.
I'm sure it means a lot to you and a nice way to remember them.
:)

Hi habiTat...what an amazingly insightful song for a 16 year old...it's kinda like you're leaving the innocent view of life that we all have as children and moving into the real world of disappointment and lose...is this recording from back then? great song...I wish I'd started writing when I was that young :(
thanks for this resurrection :) :)

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. It's fun to dig the old stuff out every now and then.

I think this actual recording was done in my early 20's actually, I found it on a cd labelled 'johns songs' :) the song itself was definitely my first write at around 16 though. My dad might still have a cassette with an earlier version on it. :/

I ripped it from the cd and upped the DB in audacity so you could actually hear it. :D

Thanks

pretty good like if its your first tune, if you said this was a recent recording i dont think anyone would have noticed as in say your vocals sound pretty much the same as you do now! i see maybes you were more into your strumming back then its more the fingerpicking these days! nice one mister!
