This is a strange one for me.

I occasionally do an acoustic project called River Junkies with a friend of mine.

We wrote this as part of our second album that we never released and I tried my hand at video.

I must admit that I only got two minutes in until I ran out of time to work on it but I like what I achieved and I spent a lot of time choosing the images to work with. They mean something.

‘The Fool Inside’

I can’t get to my feet for lack of trying
And I can’t live by your book
Because I know your words are lying
Sitting here I need someone to save me from myself
God only sees the fool inside me

I know, I know, what I’ve got to do
I know, I know
I know, I know, what I’ve got to do
I know, I know but I can’t do it without you

See I’m too busy making plans
For what I do not know
Yesterdays don’t matter anymore
I’ll take advice and shake my life
Something’s got to give
God only knows the fool inside me

CHORUS

Hi Allan,

Deffinately one for the middle of the album somewhere. I wouldn't stick it up front as its a bit long and repetitive for a single. If you wanted commercial success for it IMHO I would shorten it, and have less instrumental work. Its all good stuff, and it works well as an album track its really just what your aim is with the song that determines its success or not from this point on. For an acoustic song its got some edge to it with that vocal sound, well done.

Alan,
I like the opening pair of chords and enjoyed the more rock feel of the chorus.
Great acoustic playing/sounds and singing as ever.
Funny though I can just imagine a Les Paul/Marshall driving the chorus , and oh yes some lead has just turned up at 3.30  ;D
Had a nice live feel to it and expect it would go down well with a crowd.
:)

Bit too much of Jon Bonjovi on the vocals for my taste but it's a strong song, beautifully played, arranged and recorded. Particularly liked the acoustic work at 2:21. Such a professional sounding record. You have a real gift for arrangement and production. I agree with Allan that it's an album track at this length with this amount of instrumental time but it's a great album track.

Hi Allan...'The Fool Inside'...very cool 8)...this song and the images in the video really grabbed me for some reason...I was sorry when the pics came to an end...maybe you should repeat them going backwards and making them go faster and faster...I don't know just an silly idea ;)...but this song's definitely different from any of the others I've heard from you...you are using much grittier vocals...I really liked it...the whole production is very professional as always...love it 'River Junkies'...great song :)

I think this out-jovis Bon in many ways! I wanted a bigger, brighter mix and more oomph to the vox in parts, but great stuff regardless of my whinging ;-)

Thanks guys :-)

I wanted a 'Children of the revolution' feel to the chorus. I come in at the beginning with vocals. Alex is the gruffer vox. We did a full band in your face version too edited down slightly. If post it but I think I'd be breaking some rule regarding posting in the same thread...

We did 12 River Junkies songs. Never for anyone but ourselves so they're quite liberated and not tied down that much by 'the mans' rules.

Cheers.
