Hello all,

This is one of the first songs I began writing, when I was finishing Uni.  I had such a great time, made such great friends, and then it all finished and it hit me like a brick wall.  I've never captured that good-time feeling since.

Around this time of the year I always come back to thinking about those times (even 15 years later) and I came back to this song, to try and write the 3rd verse.

I wanted to have different rhyming structures for each verse (AABAAB, AAABBB, ABCABC), and to have the 3rd verse be about moving on.

Anyway, here it is.  Feedback is always appreciated.  I've tried putting in the Chord structure (which was a right pain in the ass to do...), to try and give a flavour of the song.

Verses
G / D / Em / C / G / Am / D / D (x2)

Pre-Chorus (1/2 time)
Am / C / G / G (x3), then,
Am / C / D / D

Chorus
G / D / Em / C / Em / C / D / D (x2)

Cheers

Where are all your friends?

Intro

G / D / Em / C / Em / C /

Pick up tempo
D / D / C / C /

1.
             G                       D
Well they came here long ago
        Em                C                  G
And they came from afar, but I didn’t have far to go
       Am                D
And somehow it turned out this way
       G                   D
We bred happiness and love
           Em         C                           G
And we all got everything that we’d been dreaming of
         Am                        D
And I wished they all could stay

1st Pre-Chorus (half tempo)
Am         C              G
And then we all came to be
Am      C          G
Part of a big family
Am    C              G
So forgive me if I’m down
Am         C             D
If I can’t see them around

Chorus
...(D)               G             D
But where are all your friends, you know
          Em               C
They were here some time ago
      Em      C                       D
And I’m dying to know who they are
               G               D
Where are all your friends, you’ll see
                Em   C
Playing on your insecurities
      Em            C                       D    C
Oh, won’t you tell me, please before tomorrow

2.
        G                          D
For three years we made our plans
      Em                   C                      G
And we cruised, used and abused in foreign lands
           Am                  D
We had our whole live in our hands
          G                         D
They were good times, they were mad
           Em                       C                    G
And I remember they were the best times that I ever had
  Am                       D
I guess that’s why I feel so sad

2nd Pre-chorus (half-tempo)
Am           C         G
Would you like to hold my hand
Am        C                  G
Can you help me understand
Am         C               G
That the good time’s gone away
Am      C             D
But I’m still here to stay

Chorus
...(D)               G             D
But where are all your friends, you know
          Em               C
They were here some time ago
      Em      C                       D
And I’m dying to know who they are
               G               D
Where are all your friends, you’ll see
                Em       C
Playing on your insecurities
      Em            C                    D      C
Oh, won’t you tell me, please before tomorrow
(C)
Won’t you help me baby now

(Instrumental – chord arrangement as 1st Chorus)

3.
    G            D
Where did it all go wrong?
   Em                     C              G
It seems life’s twice as hard, but only half as fun
     Am                   D
But we say we’ll meet again
          G                 D
Yeah, we’ll say it’s been too long
       Em                C                    G
We’ll laugh and cry ‘bout all the things we said and done
           Am                       D
But you know it just won’t be the same

3rd Pre-chorus (half-tempo)
Am        C               G
Take me back where I came from
Am         C                 D
Tell me if I keep going on, and on, and on, and on,
(D)
And on, and on, and, on...

Chorus
...(D)               G             D
But where are all your friends, you know
          Em                 C
They were here some time ago
      Em      C                       D
And I’m dying to know who they are
               G               D
Where are all your friends, you’ll see
                Em       C
Playing on your insecurities
      Em            C
Oh, won’t you tell me, please...
      Em            C
Oh, won’t you set me free...
    Em         C            D    C
To be what I can be, before tomorrow...

Me and my friends have just formed a band caled Dejected Revival, I liked your lyrics and I was wondering if you could produce us some lyrics, we don't exactly need the chords we will come up with a rhythm. But it'd be cool if you could
THank you

Thanks for your positive reply BooBoo. :)

I checked out the Dejected Revival Facebook site, they're a young Post-hardcore/Techno band just starting out.  So, what the hell, I sent them a few lyrics and see if it goes anywhere...

Only problem with this song is that the chord points all moved, so most of them are a word to early (Bollocks!!!)  >:(  Won't be trying to post chords again.

Every time I go to the lyrics section, I see this song and for some reason I thought I'd viewed and commented and then I realised I hadn't, so apologies that my feedback is late :)
Love this one! It flows so nicely, and I might even have a little go at playing it on guitar later, just to hear how it sounds. I think it's a relatable topic- not necessarily the Uni bit, for me- but we all go through life and lose not only friends but people that meant something to us, so I think it's clever to take that our of the context of love and move it into friendship instead.
Especially love the line: it seems life's twice as hard but only half as fun...that's golden

Really like this one As Jess points out it is a relatable topic, one in fact that I can relate to all too easily. I like the fact that this song neatly sums up what Uni is all about - meeting new people, having a 'new' life and while this is great it is too short lived! I really like the chorus for this one, simple, emotive yet very effective. When reading the chorus I couldn't get Champagne Supernova outa my head(I think its because it has a similar sentiment to the Champagne Supernova chorus lines 'where were yo when we were getting high?') so that's the way I 'read' them! (it sounds great that way btw!) :)

Fair praise indeed!!!  Thanks Jess and S4M88.  Champagne Supernova; I wish!!!   ;D

Here's the lyrics without all the mucked up chords, Sellon.  Cheers.

Great title - drew me straight in.  The lyrics appear to flow really well, especially the chorus - I had to try playing this one.  I like having the chords in there (I usually underline the syllable where each chord falls to mitigate for 'font realignment' issues).
I did Uni in my hometown so this reached me !
cheers, Graham.

Thanks for the feedback Sellon.  :)

Thanks too to GTB. Likewise, I studied in my hometown (Plymouth - couldn't afford to move away).  Nice to know someone felt the same (sob!!!).

And thanks for the top tip on marking chords.  Eliminates the problems I had...

Cheers
