This burst out of me on Sunday morning and I couldn't wait to post it here for comment. It's a work in progress so, there's a big hole where I'm gonna put a lead break.

Nowhere to Go
copyright Geoffrey James Evans 2013. All rights reserved

I've got the sun in my eye and I'm going away
I've got nowhere to go but I'm leaving today
No use sitting on my hands
I don't care   you don't understand

(chorus)
I've just gotta be on the road in the summer time
Gotta be doin' my own thing in my own time
I ain't got any work to do
Just need a town to be passing through on my way

Got the beach in my sights and the radio high
I guess I look pretty cool as I'm passing you by
Got my eye out along the side
For a lady to share the ride

Chorus

(Mid 8 )
I'm not leaving a forwarding address
'Cos I really didn't leave anything behind

Chorus

... I'll do some reviews later in the week, promise ;)

You did this in a morning!!!?  :o

Bloody excellent!!

It reminds me a bit of Breakfast at Tiffanys by Deep Blue Something, that combined with the general style of The Divine Comedy. I love it, very accomplished, well written, well arranged and very summery.  ;D

Sorry I can't offer anything constructive, to me it sounds finished.

Thanks for sharing

Hab..

Very nice  ;D....The sun is streaming through my window, and I'm listening to this.  It has inspired me to have my breakfast in the garden, and enter the comp. ;D ;D...Thanks

Really good song, with a positively sunny melody. Suits your voice too.
Just wonder about 'lady' - perhaps 'you' would be better..
A bit of base and a lead break and you're there.

Ha ha! Thanks Habitat. This one was such a blast to do. Not exactly in a morning but 80% of it was there within a couple of hours. The middle 8 (or middle 4 to be more accurate!) came last and it is my fav bit. It was a real treat tonight driving out of the office car park in the sunshine with the windows down and this on the player.

Binladeda. Many thanks and I am glad if I helped to motivate you in any way :)

Neil C. Thanks for the kind words. I agree about the 'lady' line. Seems a bit sleezy now I look at it again. I will have another look at the entire lyric before i finalise. I've also got a bass line promised by Basshead but he doesn't know that our old drummer wants to 'tweek' the drums ;). Then the pressure will be on me to slot in a killer lead break (I wish) ... Perhaps we should re-form the band?

P.s. Neil, no idea who's Saab that is ... not mine :( just a randon snap I took in Margate (I think) in about 1981! ... good lord how old am I?

Kind and encouraging words Seriousfun many thanks.

I'm still buzzing over this one :) I have added a lead break now, quite unspectacular but fits nicely and I tightened up the mid 8 (too many held G chord transitions, now at least they're fewer by one). I have also tweeked the lyric which I will re-record next time I'm sure I'm alone in the house ;)

But I don't want to flood Soundcloud with revisions. What do you do about that? I mean I want to show progress but I don't want loads of copies out there. I guess I know the answer, Wait 'till it's finished?

Hey Geoff

Def. got that summer vibe. Tapping along with my feet, it's pretty hard not too.
I think the instrumentation is already pretty good. Looking forward to the addition of the bass.
Vocal harmonies are very well executed.
I agree about the front-runner potential of this one :)

Love it, love your picking through the choruses, Its how i try to play.
You have cracked it regarding it being a summer tune. I would like to hear a solo in there though. from  2mins 10 secs. bright and chiming. not the type of solo a rock player plays but that kind of BYRDS, BLUETONES solo. I think it would fit in very well and complete the song.
