Hi,

Is anyone running Cakewalk Sonar 7 Producer's edition on Windows 8? If so, any problems? If you upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and it didn't work, could you let me know also.

I'm thinking of replacing my Windows 7 PC with a new one running Windows 8 but I'm not going to cough up £385 for the Windows 8 compatible Sonar X2 (which has replaced Sonar 7).

Thanks

M

I think you are looking at £159 to upgrade from Sonar 7 producer to x2 if you go to Cakewalk directly

You can also get it for £135 from here in the uk: http://www.etcetera.co.uk/?home

The new version takes some getting used to but it is awesome - the upgrade price is worth it for the Pro-Channel on its own, let alone all of the other new bells and whistles

I can also help you get up and running with X2 as I use it for all of my stuff (and I wrote the review for Future Music magazine  ;))

I think Sonar 7 will work but it is a few versions behind now (8 - 8.5 - X1 - X2) so there are lots of new features that might make your life easier

The main concern is making sure good drivers are available for all.ofnyour hardware, especially your audio interface!

PM me if you want any specific details

Alan,
I'm with Boydie all the way. I upgraded from cakewalk to X1 and a brand new PC and haven't looked back since. Together the performance is just great. Its stable and really usable, like yourself I mainly use it for audio the revised interface lets you get on with recoding.
Anyway what did you do in the end?

I'm still with my original PC running Producer 7. I know I'm only delaying the inevitable but I love what's familiar.. :'(

Yes but you've got your new guitar and recently have being experimenting all over the place. Don't delay the sooner you swap the sooner you'll be familiar with and benefiting from the new....

Just seen this thread. I've been running X2 on Windows 8 for almost a year now and it's amazing. I also run a mac with pro tools, and since getting X2 I haven't even switched it on it's so good. Get yourself switched over now, you'll never look back

Saeed,
I went for the best I could afford and bought a dedicated one optimised specifically for music production from Inta-Audio who also configured Sonar and put the drivers on for my audio interface.
I guess it was aboiut 2 years ago and probably paid about £1200 for the base system. i7 @ 3.6Mgz, Win 7, 64 bit o/s, 16GB of Ram and 2 x 1 TB drives. Still stable and runs fine.
Must upgrade to X2 as Mark has said soon.

Hello Neil ..

your PC is good it's the fastest in the market .. 3.6 GH i7 CPU .. the ram is a bit small 16 .. if you have 4 slots  4 X 8GB ram is great .. but how fast is the ram required ??

more money to spend with each upgrade .. these people are good in milking money .. cash dairy companies .. ;D ;D

cheers ..

@ Neil (and others)

I think there is currently a 50% sale on upgrades to X2 so now might be a good time to bag a bargain

In fact the upgrade from X1 to X2 was only £39, but words of warning, its a huge download just under 8GB, so I've had top bring my PC into the house an attached it to the router, looks like a 4 hour wait.
No superfast broadband out in the countryside but at least its working.

Boydie,
Upgraded to X2 successfully but struggling with swim lanes, select editing and rather dark look and feel. How long did it take you to adjust and get up to speed?
