Written as a protest song.

Crocodiles with plastic smiles,
glaring from the TV.
They wouldn't live, god forbid,
under this brown fog of debris.

They'll take their land, from a working hand,
and gut him for his misery.
They'll deal their cards, with kind regards,
and tell you 'Arbeit Macht Frei'.

Oh, oh,  work sets you free
Oh, oh, from a life of liberty.

So we'll walk the line, or pour their wine,
for a glimpse of some autonomy.
But they'll take it all, and orchestrate our fall,
in this fucked up, one way economy.

You think your free, and they agree
Just as long as you can't see.
So read the books, about the crooks,
that they label blasphemy.

Oh, oh Work sets you free
Oh, oh from a life on liberty

Very clever penship with this one, you managed to write a very good protest song yet keep it somewhat catchy at the same time, something that the Boss and Dylan and only a few others can manage, I like how the lyrics are heavy in meaning and intent yet don't seem heavy in terms of tone or reading, it works perfectly to prevent this becoming another, boringly predictable protest song.... great imagery in the lyrics especially about the brown debris... simply brilliant :)

Wow thank you, that's very high praise indeed! And the brown debris is a reference to Eliots 'The Wasteland' which I think fits the tone of the song. Thanks again haha

Works well, but keep in mind that The Libertines have a song called Arbeit Macht Frei already. Normally having a song of the same name wouldn't be a problem but in this case I think it might be...

It was the Auschwitz connotations I was concerned about, but anyway, nothing beats a bit of controversy. Great song though, good topic. I've never tried a protest song.
