Hi All,

I just wondered if there were any ideas for the next comp. The conspiracy one runs until March so we've got a bit of time to think but the earlier we decide on something the earlier we can start writing. :)

So far the ideas I'm aware of and can remember are...

• 20 words 100 seconds (songsthatcry)

• Requiem (funeral songs)  (Dutchbeat)

20 words 100 seconds is a bit to similar to the 'short song' comp we had....

How abouts an "out of your comfort zone" competition.

As in:

Those that write acoustic ditties instead write an electro piece, or a heavy rock number.

Those that write electro dance instead grab a guitar or piano...

Etc etc

Anything can be entered so long as it isn't from your normal style(s).

Might be a little tricky to enforce but it could be (a) interesting and (b) a good exercise for people.

I suppose it might be more demanding, which could be a pain, as you'd need a decent recording programme and/or access to instruments other than your usual axe.

Just an idea tho!

@James  I quite like that idea, my instruments are very limited though so something electric from me might sound very 'Casio' circa 1986 :D

@Kafla  Do you mean, no FX, no editing or enhancement/reverb etc, just a video using the camera mics? a proper 'unplugged' performance?

I like the idea of something 'out of the comfort zone' as I have something I could submit already :D

I also like the idea of doing a live youtube video. I would add that it should be a song that you have not recorded in any form before. (So it forces you to get the writing done before laying down any sounds) I think that could be fun & challenging.

Oooh. Another idea

A 12 bar blues comp

Only using the classic 12 bar I VI V setup. Maybe doesn't have to be blues but does have to follow the format...

And yeah I'd be happy to record a fresh song for a YouTube comp

If the "out of comfort zone" comp was chosen, may leave that for next time (ie finish september) so people can plan ahead?

Err... that's out of my comfort zone, I don't really know what that means ???   :D

Youtube comp sounds really good to me, I like that idea, it also has the advantage of us being able to put faces to names  :)

Its fairly easy to follow if you know your chord theory. If we were to do it me and some other chord-ies can write out some premade sequences so you can just copy them. Once you play it you WILL know the sequence and what it sounds like

I thought it might be quite cool to take the classic set up and see what we all do differently with it

Plus I kinda wanted to do one anyway ;)
