Hi all

I have been bursting to tell you but wanted to see it in print before getting too excited

I have written the Sonar X2 (daw) review for Future Music magazine, which has appeared in the new issue (261)

I haven't got a copy yet but the cover cd should also feature some snippets of my songs to demo the new features, fx etc.

The whole project has been really exciting and a lot of hard work (and late nights) and I would particularly like to publicly thank RED for his help and putting me forward for it

It seemed too good to be true to get paid to play with a daw I would have been playing with anyway BUT the writing part was a massive challenge - especially as I only had a week to explore the software, do some research, write the review - to a strict style guide - as well as record the audio examples and sort out all of the screenshots etc.

I hope to now get stuck in to reviewing again - and of course get back on track with writing and some collabs, so many ideas so little time!!!!

Ps - Sonar X2 (now X2a) is genuinely a top notch daw for the money and it will be intersting to see how it compares to Cubase 7, which hadn't been released when I wrote the review

Many many congratulations Boydie - that's excellent news :D :D :D

I must check out Sonar as I'm looking for a new comp/daw setup for a new project this year. Remind us when the mag comes out and I'll grab myself a copy.

Proud of ya, man! *wipes a tear*

Congrats man, I'll try to source the review when it is live!

I am on Cubase 6.5, and I have a free upgrade to 7 (as I purchased a week before 7 was announced).

However... I like to stay a version behind for bug fixes and compatibilty issues. So I might let it pass me by for now. Sonar has some good word of mouth, but, as is so often the case, I have 12 years of experience and plugins for Cubase...it is always a big thing to move from a comfy home

Props to ya!  ;D

Cheers guys

I beleive it is out now, electronic and shop copies

I am sure I will be having a sneaky peak when I get out to the shops tomorrow ;-)

The new X2a patch for Sonar (which wasn't out for the review) introduces full multi-touch

It is looking like the future of daws could be a large screen mounted normally and then a touch screen mounted horizontally to act as a 2nd monitor AND control surface via a touch screen

I will post some links to some cool vids later but this could well be the future!!!!

Hmm...

I dunno

I think touchscreen tech is still a good few years off being ideal. I still like mouse keyboard with hardware control aside

But it will happen eventually

I have started a thread in the recording section to discuss the touch screen thing - with some videos of the potential!

@ Tone
There is a 30 day free trial of Sonar X2 and there are some cracking videos on the "Cake TV" YouTube channel

Here is a (very) quick overview:

This focusses on the new features in X2 and gives another good overview of how it works:

And obviously if you need a hand I will always help where I can
