One thing about your design occurs to me... You are only 21, in 30 years time, headphones that look like that may have completely disappeared due to fashion or technological advances. It could end up being a bit like having a wind-up gramophone tattooed on you when you will still be younger than I am now! haha...

That's a good remark, estreet, but I've always been a bit of a vintage freak. I collect vinyl, have an old sound recorder with those huge wheels (don't know if you've got a clue of what I'm talking about, can't explain it any clearer with my limited vocabulary :p)... So I don't think that would be an issue. Au contraire It would be more of a statement, I guess ;-)

I do get the point of those saying that you brand yourself with it. But personally I think it all depends on what tattoo you chose and esp. where you're getting it. And obvsly that for the most part depends on your motives to get one. I think face/neck tattoos are just meant to shock people, full sleeves are just meant to show off. Other ones can be justified. And beautiful I think.

For me, it would be more smt for myself. Sometimes life can slap you in the face. And when that happens, music is there to comfort you. For me at least. That's exactly what the design is about. The heartbeat line symbolises that (sorry, I'm not the best drawer :p) And also in a sense - and I know this is gonna sound incredibly cheesy and cliché - it's about capturing a bit of the person I am today.

And Binladeda, your comment was hilarious :p

Kafla, glad to hear at least one positive experience :)
You guys def. gave me some thinking material.

I honestly love mine  ;D

I have one on each upper arm, one on my back and one on the side of my thigh

They can all be hidden even in shorts and t-shirts ( which was a pre requisite  for me) I thought long and hard about what I wanted

I won't regret them ever - I got my first one done when I was 21 and last one 3 years ago when I was 33

I wouldn't  hesitate getting another either

I find the whole thing quite spiritual and it's like a body bookmark of a time in your life

Pick the right location and a design that means something and you will be fine ;D

Great (and hilarious) point!

It is a no from me as well - I think all of the issues have been discussed well

I have considered getting a discrete one when I get my martial art black belt to "mark" the occasion but I probably wont, mainly due the reasons given so far

I especially agree with the "feminine" points - althougb on some very rare occasions they can look pretty

I think TINA hit it in the head though with the "cliche" thing and trying to different, when it is actually more different to not have a tat!

However this is just a personal opinion - it is your body so go for it if it is something you want

You clearly giving it some careful thought so if you do decide to do it I don't think you will regret it as you have already considered all of the consequences

Good luck with whatever you decide - and show us some pics!!!

thats alright for you americans!

ive been very negative stephanie ....you are young you should get tattoos & have lots of boyfriends & be wild & experiment with all sorts of things & have fun finding out what you like & who you are...
& you only realy learn things by making mistakes so dont be afraid of that

i have a friend who treats her tattoos like bookmarks in her life like kafla ...she gets one to mark important events & i think thats a nice idea ......but then every time she read a good book that impressed her she started getting a quote from it done as a tattoo ....now she looks like a  jotter come notepad with all these things scribbled on her.....you have to know when to stop!
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

sorry to go off topic , but what martial art do you do boydie ?

It is a hybrid of lots of different styles but the system is based on Kung Fu

It is a very "practical" system based on what might be experienced "on the street" - i.e. not focussing on "kicks to the head" but much more practical stuff  ;)

Not quite, although parts of the system are very similar

The system I am studying is called Feng Shou - although it has been amended to also include the most useful elements from wing chun, judo, aikido etc.

It is a very "soft"/technical martial art that takes a long time to make effective but once you get the techniques "down" it is VERY effective

It is all about taking an opponent's balance when they attack, not resisting their force but re-directing it, and then striking as part of the defensive action (i.e whilst they are "off balance)

It really does negate the "strength match" thing and we have some tiny girls that could drop most large men! (and they often do during training!!!!)

More like hit them with a chair!

But no, Feng Shou is not to be confused with Feng Shui - or you will get a nasty shock if you turn up for a class!!!!
