Hi,

This is the latest song I've written and the first I've played harmonica on. The acoustic guitar and vocal is live and I've overdubbed the dobro, harmonica and tambourine.

I turned 50 this summer and I wanted to write something about looking back and remembering moments from the past and how they take on a life of there own as memories. I hope you like it and I hope you can give me some feedback.

Thank you.

This is a lovely song.  The fingerpicking is excellent.  The minimal selection of instruments work so well together and the lyrics are extremely enjoyable.  It's interesting how the melody rises on the word fall.  I find that to be very endearing.  I don't really have any criticism to offer.  I think this is a very strong  song with great imagery and would love to hear it recorded in a quality studio.  :)

What a lovely arrangement you have put with this. So soft and the solo at 2 min is a lovely break. The minimilistic arrangement truly suits this song which is held together with your rich and soft vocal performance. Loved it mate. Kudos to you.

Oh Montydog,  I was struggling to keep myself together while listening to your lovely song ... still have a knot in my stomach now, the Springtime verse really got to me.  Although it was your 'looking back' images, I found I could identify with the emotion in the piece, you should be proud of this  (and of being 50 :) )

Beautiful Montydog,

great song, i especially liked the melody of the part beginning with

"when you look behind ....
.... big wheel keeps on turning"

and that slightly weeping guitar

great!

Aaaah, campfire music :)

Great fingerpicking, and I love the slide guitar !
Nice idea with the tambourine, would have liked to hear that during more than just the last minute, to get a bit more rhythm into the song (or maybe a stomp box?)

Good job on the vocals too...
Can't think of anything else I would change on this, nicely done !

Hi Monty,

You have a very soothing voice.
Lyrically very picturesque (can't think of a better word :)
I love the combination of slide and harmonica.

Nice one.

Beautiful

Lovely to hear real acoustic guitar, mic'ed up naked

Fav Stanza is this:

Spring time was for Caroline
The promise she wrote in the morning sand
The look that said "I understand"
Now I realise
Just the memory survives

This is great, totally my thing.

The ONLY quirk for me is that the slide guitar is too heavily panned, esp for listening on can's. But this is nitpicking.

Lovely  ;D

Your songs remind me a lot of Don McLean, John Denver - music I used to listen to intensely

This is very rich and emotive indeed

The slide guitar is maybe just panned a little touch to far initially , but it comes in better second time round

Nice vocal as well

You have created a lovely maudlin landscape here and I hope you are proud of this one  ;D

you have the most gorgeous timbre to your voice it makes me go all funny & that was the big highlight for me again
its a lovely song ...the backing was a bit quiet i thought & i realy liked the dobro altho it did sound like it was being played outside my head (im on headphones) which was a very strange experiience & made me think it was a in a part of my brain i hadnt found before!!
i heard shades of gordon lightfoot who i used to think was wonderful as a young teenager
if you could do a bit of whistling i think you could be the new roger whittaker ;D
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

Bittersweet and beautiful - what a lovely song you have written, wonderful music and lyrics.  I would like to hear the instruments a little louder but apart from that it is perfect as is x

lovely song monty
slide gtr really effective and your vocal tones a treat..reminds a little of g lightfoot as tina mentioned..’in the early morning rain’
the quickening lyric phrases in the chorus are a nice idea but feel a little rushed
i think you could afford to relax into it a little more and achieve a steadier groove..
be nice to back up the chorus parts with a bass or another instrument ,
a good place for things to gently lift..
very nice though monty,
i can hear you singing ‘distant drums’
i may not believe this tomorrow...
