stripped down of all production acrobatics and vocal layering. just a double harmony main vox & background 'aahs' in chorus kinda Lennon/McCartney-ish...straight up heavy rocker in 7/8. guitar solo is very Jimmy Page/Dave Navarro. lyrics loosely inspired by Arthur Rimbaud's "Une Saison en Enfer" ["A Season In Hell"] .

The Beautiful And Dangerous
© 2009-2012 MRI
Words & Music by Daren Thomas Turner

'tis the season far from hell
time to chill; time to gell
fill my shoes with geritol
wash it down with alcohol

where were you when we were us?
you're beautiful and dangerous
you are like a setting sun
get too close and you get burned

pleasantries wear thick and thin
wander out and wander in
lichens grow under your skin
your vegetable is all within

will you please please remove your hat?
bow your head and wait for that
thing you didn't really trust

the beautiful and dangerous pills are always black and red--take just one and you are dead
there is not an antidote
there is not a shred of hope
the beautiful and dangerous
things you said before you broke
everything that was my life

time to tease; time to grin
time to laugh at everything
time to take your ecstasy
time to find your deep meaning

all your friends are misconstrued
all of them are just like you
"things you didn't mean to say"
hell you say them anyway;

all your friends are so upset they have brought their tourniquets
they have brought their silver spoons
but they will all be leaving soon
when it is the midnight hour
i will use my special powers
a little game of show and tell...

(there was an error with your submission...
there was an error with your submission...
there was an error with your submission...)

Alan Cruz: drums
Daniel Denial: bass

(SC page also has video URL w/ earlier live track of this. we speed up towards the end, and i drop my pick last two measures of guitar solo, but such is live lol -- also kinda ironic that my ex girlfriend, whom this song is about, is the poster frame set on uTube {a still from live show} ;p)

Not really into heavy stuff, but I've gotta say this ROCKS !
Brilliant idea with the 7/8 time signature... can't say I've ever come across anything quite like it. The vocal harmonics are very cool, too, sort of remind me of Muse in their early days.
Good stuff !

great, very great, smashing

and lyrics sound very good to me

you got everything right again, Virus
only thing that bothered me a bit, was that sort of laughing sound in the beginning...a detail, but still i thought i might as well bring it up

for the rest: a big thumps up!!!

I loved the tune and it really did rock

I did find the 7/8 timesignature a little "un comfortable" for the whole track - which I presume is part of the intention

I think a few sections in good ole' 4/4 (even super short sections) would have provided a nice contrast - and would have perhaps even have enhanced the "awkward" feel of 7/8

Having said that I do love the "angsty" feel of the track and it was great to hear a clean(er) vocal - which was great by the way

The "beautiful & dangerous" line and hook is awesome and works really well in the track

Great job - and I did enjoy the glimpse of you guys live via the YouTube link

Got a soft spot for heavy music..Black Sab`s ,when i was 15,,saw RANDY RHOADS ,with OZZY (showing my age ;)

Anyway..liked this a lot..bit early FLOYD in there...think i preferred the live version ..cos that solo really kicked it out of the park!!

Very nice!  Heavy rock is not my main cup of tea but I liked this.  Well executed and sung - had to look up what "Geritol" was...

The 7/8 really cooks and moves the song along really well. Great guitar, good solid vocals and harmonies...and I like the lyrics too! I would dump the "error in your submission" at the end...that's just me as I feel it takes away from a great groovin' song and takes it a bit in the too avant garde area for me...but that is pure one mans taste so not to be taken too seriously at all. Great job man, KUDOS, CONGRATS, and Cheers and thanks for sharing it with all of us! Wish I could play heavy guitar like that!

One "idea" lyrically...at the end I hear it changing the lyric slightly to bring it "HOME" so to speak like this...
Regular Chorus...

'tis the season far from hell
time to chill; time to gell
fill my shoes with geritol
wash it down with alcohol

Last Chorus...

'tis the season far from hell
Raise your Glass and wish me well
forget the past, forget it all
wash it down with alcohol... ;)

Wow..........Another excellent piece ABV. Took me back to all the festivals I've ever been too. Even the ones I've forgotten ;D ;D. Would love to see you guys in action. Great groove here, the lyrics and vocals are the hook for me....loved the imagery and melodies there. The guitar playing is 'epic'....no wonder you dropped your pick. You should've carried on playing with your teeth  ;D....I've got a feeling that you probably could do that......all real guitar players can ;D ;D.....Loved it
Nowt as queer as folk...........my gran

thanks Boydie, STC, NCM, Mike, Binladeda & Monty-

yeah i agree that the live version has more energy & feel; sometimes not playing with a click track frees up the studio fetters. Sometimes Alan freezes up a bit when he knows the 'record' button is engaged. i learned a trick to not tell him when we were tracking. i like the hang better in the studio version (right after solo) that we totally missed on the live one.

lol at finishing solo w/ my teeth. i'll let Hendrix be the master at that.

i used to drag a violin bow on stage sometimes though...learned very quickly that you eat up all the horsehair after like 20 minutes.

I like the Rimbaud reference.  The whole track was rocking.  There was a cool part in there that reminded me a little of Pink Floyd.  Awesome lyrics and great job overall.

You can hear your vocals much better in this song and it's all the better for it - like a heavier Beatles Day Tripper in the chorus - great ahhhhhh backing vocals

Guitar sounds a little like U2 hold me , thrill me and the whole song has that soundtrack feel to it - brilliant descending chords in the chorus

Love this -

time to tease; time to grin
time to laugh at everything
time to take your ecstasy
time to find your deep meaning

I think you are mega talented Daren  ;D

Hey ABV, This is not the sort of thing I would ever listen to but I can definitely appreciate the high quality of your work. I could never get my head in gear to write a song with this kind of rhythm, it just baffles me, so I applaud you for your musical ability. The production is very professional and I really like the way it just stops dead at the end. You are helping me to broaden my musical knowledge. :)

Excellent work.
