I really enjoyed this. Nice tune great delivery - how do you get your Tascam to sound so good!!!???

Yes too long - but that has already been covered - looking forward very much to hearing the 3.30 version. Good stuff. BTB
not really good at anything - but as long as I am breathing I will keep on trying

Yeah I enjoyed this although I agree that you could possibly take to the cutting room.
I get a sense of Cohen meets Cash :) which is definitely good!

Nice work :)

Hi,

Following feedback from forum members, I've come up with a final version of this song. Everyone said it was too long so I've cut it down from 5:30 to 4:00 by cutting the repitition of the chorus down to twice. I've added bass, clarinet and a little percussion. Nooms, I tried an Oboe and all the woodwinds and the clarinet sounded best to my ears. I'd love to hear what you think of the finished version.

Wow !

This is truly outstanding Alan

The way you have taken all the advice on board

The clarinet is genius  ;D really defines that section now

Your vocal sounds much richer here and the finger picking is very tight. I think the lyric is very neat now as well

I really am blown away with what you have done here - simple & understated but very beautiful

Very well done indeed - bloody brilliant  ;D

Hi Alan,

Great improvements here.  The guitar is more prominent and the vocal has more presence, whilst the clarinet gives the listener something new and very interesting to consider.  It's a lovely song and one to be very proud of!

this is brill. love the guitar. tiny bit too distant maybe. lovely though. i wouldnt have bothered with the clicks toward the end. think a flute rather than them keys woulda been perfect at the end there but thats just me. good work

Lovely improvements, subtle but worthwhile changes.

There is room in this song for more of a build, but in my head I am hearing luxuries: String sections, piano flourishes.

As a demo this is perfect now :)

you have sung this so extremely well

i take my hatt off for how subtile and smooth you can sing

and the song is well-crafted, good work

but it is a bit oversweet for my mood now, but i can imagine that this song will be spot on when in another mood

I like the harmonica idea someone suggested, I think it would work well. The only other nit is that it's a little long.
An eerie  lonesome feel to the song.

A bit too gentle for my liking but this is truly magical in its own right. I got the hint of Cash in the vocals, but almost better in a way. I can see the reason for such good feedback. Very good!

Alan, sorry I have been traveling all over the U.S. this past week --- I really love this , personal like a conversation to someone you wish you could speak to directly but can't...I love the chorus...for my money I would dump the last two lines of "holding on" and end with "I Still love You". But opinions are like bottoms of our bottoms ---we all have em ya know...and writing is personal and comes from what we or YOU want to be the final product.   I love the song and the emotion very much, at the end of the day you want to appeal to peoples emotions...I think you did here. Cheers Alan.

I liked this very much the first time I heard it and I like it even more now. The melody is great and lyric sits so easy with it. I am happy it is shorter - it just leaves me wanting more and subtle changes and additions are just lovely - nice work BTB
not really good at anything - but as long as I am breathing I will keep on trying

A quick update. Nooms has kindly arranged an orchestral part for this which is here:

I think he's done a lovely job. What do you reckon?
