Hi All,

I have just joined this forum so a big hello to everyone.

I am a songwriter originally from the UK and have recently moved to La France.

I have posted a couple of my songs on line for you all to hear.

The first is entitled "I Never Got Nowhere" and is a kind of silly song about those relationships that just don't work.

It can be found here :-

http://www.reverbnation.com/thechemisttree

I will endevour to listen and review some of your work later this evening once my speakers are set up again.

All comments are welcome

Thanks,

TCT

I Never Got Nowhere

V1

I know I’ve got no right to say this,
I know I’ve got no right to love,
I know I’ve got no play this one,
But it’s you that cut me out,
I know I tried so hard to reach ya,
I know I tried to hard to change,
I know what I tried to achieve through you,
And it’s why I decided to stay.
But I say we make a new start,
See what’s inside my heart,
Stop tearing me apart,
Coz I’m not used to this.

V2

I’m not saying that you’re my first love,
I’m not saying that you’re my last,
I’m not saying that you’re the cursed one,
That I’m running away from so fast.
But why is it everything goes wrong,
And why is it when I’m with you,
And why am I writing this song,
When you say none of it is true.
But I just can’t pretend,
Coz I want to do it again,
I don’t want to be friends,
Coz that's not what I intend,
But just somehow.

Chorus

I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
Ahh (‘n stuff)

Bridge

Oh I’ve done my best, but there’s nothing left,
Like a fingerprint pressed into your lips,
The silence that I can’t stand is bliss,
Your soft touch so hard to resist,
Now I really don’t give a damn,
Oh I'll throw all my toys out of my pram,
I’m just getting on the best that I can,
I hope you drown in your fake tan,
Won’t be hearing about all of your chores,
All the stories that I now can ignore,
Of a hair colour that’s really not yours,
Oh no more.

Chorus

I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere,
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I never got nowhere (I so wanna go there),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
I so wanna go there (Said I know where and when),
Ahhhhhh.

this is quite a nice listen. it kind of blends certain aspects of The Proclaimers and Blind Melon but with your own unique application of style. The breaks at 1:53 and 3:29 are tasty and allows a slight pause in the feeling that is contrasted against the strumming guitars. it's nice to have a song w/out drums that doesn't lag; the tambourine suffices plenty in this. lyrics are catchy and universally relatable. nice work on this.

hi chemistree
enjoyed your song
nicely put together, very well sung and played ..great chorus, you really mean it
personally i think the change might be unnecessary, nothing wrong with it but i like the energy youve built to that point, think you could capitalise on that and go straight to the outro part and that great chorus..
but fine work
welcome to the forum

i may not believe this tomorrow...

Ah. The accursed double negative. We meet again....

I liked the harmonies on the "Ahh N Stuff" part.

I feel there is a lovely song here that is just being a little shy with me. The lashes are flashing, the ankle is bare and the foot twirling, but that is all I am getting for now. As a "pop" song, she should be far more slutty methinks.

The main melodies are good but not pushed enough at me. And the mix and arrangement is very uninspiring. Of course, successive listens may alleviate this but it feels like it should be more immediate.

With a subtler casting of the production brush and a few changes here and there you could have a great "Noah and the Whale" style acoustic pop song here. Think first album Cambridge lovelies, not 3rd album LA drum machine(?!?) expats.

Cheers and welcome to the madhouse!

yeah i like this like, good liitle tune i reckon if you were to cut it shorter the change at around a minute and fifty would have sounded better for me if you slowed it down with the guitar riffs and that and then went back into the chipper verse / chorus kinda got me a bit lost for me!
fly away and find my peace of mind...

Thanks for the welcome.

As for the mix and arrangement, all of the songs i will put up are demos and I am keeping them as simple and bare bones as possible. The reason i am doing this is that i want to look for others to play and perform with in the near future, and i would prefer to develop it with others so that i can get their input as opposed to say "Here is the song, i want you to play this", leaving them no creative input.

Thanks also for the welcome.

I like the change but one thing i feel a bit is that it maybe is a bit too long. When i first wrote this it was a lot shorter but maybe i got carried away.

Thanks ABV. Liked your tune also. I won't put drums or bass on any of my songs for now as maybe i will find others to add these later. I will stick with Tambourines, handclaps and rhythmic guitar just to give the songs their drive.

Nice tune ,like to hear you sing it after you had a few pints  :D ;D

Will give that a try, but not too many pints.

Thanks for your input everyone, i will review some more of yours soon.

I think JAMES has hit the nail on the head in his eloquent way

A much more direct, "sluttier" pop song may have been more effective

It sounds very much like a couple of songs welded together for no real reason - I had to check that REVERBNATION had not scrolled through the songs - which I found a little distracting

However, on the plus side I think you have a couple of good little songs here!

I would really like to hear a full production if you can get some guys/gals together and I do admire you for leaving room for development when you do

A great start to your time here and do get stuck in reviewing others

Thanks Boydie.

I wanted to stray away from slutty lyrics a bit is there is so much of that sort of thing around these days. I do have one song like this, but i have been advised to tone it down a little as it is very slutty lol.

I have reviewed a few tracks on here so far and am going to get stuck in to a few more (and add another myself) next weekend when i am off.

Cheers for the input guys

TCT.

I think you have misunderstood us (Damn that JAMES and his flowery lanugage!  ;) )

I was picking up on JAMES' metaphor - by "sluttier" we do not mean this literally but in more of a "get down to some simple, basic, unashamed POP"

You are hinting at (hence the "tease" references) so we are just saying it could be a good approach to just give it with both barrells! (now who's getting slutty!  ;))

Keep things simple, punchy and push the melodies

Great start though and I hope you find the right people to work with

Hi,

It's got a cool feel to it, real good rhythms going on it think, and nice sounding guitar!

Not my cuppa, but it is a good song, good harmonies.

nice one,

Mike

Hey - this is lovely.  It does sound like you mean the vocals and there's a lot of work gone into putting this together

The breakdown section (virtually another song patched in)  is almost too broken down for my ears - I can see what the goal is though and it's a good show of a confident song to give it so much time to do these long sections.

It's got a great vibe and the melody is strong all the way through - as usual I never actual listen to the lyrics so can't comment on those :)
