So you make it known that you don’t like the way we’re living
Because all my talk of breaking free has made our home a prison
We’ve seen angels in the ceiling plaster spinning through infinity
I’ve woken drunk too many times the smell of death all over me
Now twenty years behind the plough you finally learn to shove
I think it’s fair to say you’ve had enough but I would burn down heaven for your love
Front row in a circus tent a crumpled ticket in my fist
You were the contortionist locked in a box with swords through it
Your father, the ringmaster, fearing innocence could never last
Strapped you down and bust your knees and cut the tendons at your heels
So from that moment forward you could bend but never run
As Abraham laid down his only son your father burned down heaven for your love
I remember afternoons spinning records in your room
Lemon sunshine blasting through the half-light
Cracked connections, melted keys, obsolete technologies
We were born too late
We’re solid state
Yeah solid state but…..
Some nights on those weekend runs I swear I heard you speak in tongues
Now looking back I have my doubts but sugar I won’t rule it out
And if some day we must atone for all the evil we have done
Then when I stand before the throne I’ll clench my fists and square my shoulders
I’ll not bear the burden of a sin passed down in blood
While some men plead for mercy from above I would burn down heaven for your love
It’s August Bank Holiday
They dammed the colliery river
The kids are swimming naked
On the banks the mothers smoke and shiver
Upstairs in the welfare hall
It’s turned into a free-for-all
They locked the doors and closed the curtains
Someone’s getting hurt for certain
The strippers say ‘hey fuck it
We’ll just pass around the bucket'
I’ve had my fill I’m taking off the gloves
I would have burned down heaven for your love
I would burn down heaven for your love

Yes, the link works, rocking!!

very heavy lyrics...gloomy and dark, not my cup of tea, to be honest, but interesting from the beginning to the end

and a great sound, and ha that break towards the end is brilliant!!! yeah

I saw the soundcloud image of the song and thought, 'wow, this is going to be loud' and it is.. Almost blew my head off!! lol

Not my sort of thing but it seems to be well recorded and produced.

Cool :)

A taste of my kinda music man! Sometimes you just gotta rock out and this song does just that. I think it does go on a bit long for it being such a straight rocker; it does drag, but doesn't get boring. Nice guitar solos throughout, I really dug that. Lyrics don't really have a big part in this kinda music, so lyrics are fine by me. Good job!

Cheers guys! Yes indeed, it feels good to rock out very loudly and completely unashamedly sometimes. I never considered the lyrics to be particularly heavy. To me they're maybe darkly humorous. Hearing folks' take on things is fascinating. And yeah that false ending. Strictly on the QT we lifted it from Matthew Sweet's Sick Of Myself  ;)

Hey Adam,

Liked this also. Very rockin'. I've listened to a few of your songs and like them all, however the one I'm still humming in work is 'nowhere calling.'

Play it loud.

'We’ve seen angels in the ceiling plaster...' is a good line.

This is a great track! lyrically and musically! but man, pull it in.... doesn't need to be this heavy, get a mix between 'When September comes' and 'Delilah'.

6.11 is long, lose the end. I don't think it adds anything :(

Really great track though :)
