This is a song we had already recorded for our album. I always like to base our videos on a live performance though, so we re-recorded as we filmed a live version of it (although there are a few cheaty camera shots flown in and extra harmonies were added). Despite the limitations of recording live to only 8 tracks and playing in the same room (apart from the drums) I actually prefer this version and we will use it on the album. Yes I would much prefer to mic up the acoustic rather than use the DI - but my amp was blaring away, as were the drums through monitor speakers so that wasn't possible. In the end I thought this had more spark than the more produced version and I didn't want to mess about with it too much. Like all my stuff, it was mixed in Garageband.

I always worry people will see this song as being religious - it's certainly not.

Your Light Will Shine.

Set in motion,
All the things you want to be tonight.
Like the ocean,
Ebb and flow is never wrong nor right.
It's flashing in the waters of the changing tide.

Nothing's perfect,
Everybody wants a little more.
Is it worth it?
When every step just leads you to another floor/flaw

Your light will shine (x2)
You'll find your time,
Cos' you deserve another chance,
Everybody needs to dance.

Holy Moses,
I never thought that I could see the world this way.
Just supposing,
All our expectations could be washed away,
Then I'd have nothing left except a lot to say.

Your light will shine (x2)
You'll find your time,
Cos' you deserve a second chance,
Everybody needs to dance.

Your light will shine.

Youth & enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery.

Typing as I listen :)

Love that tremelo on the guitar... What a great track! Very nice to see you all playing it, that's a cool bonus.

Really enjoying that bass although it seems wrong to single anyone out because it's all good  ;D

This is just a really good song. No critisism's  ;D

Hi Carl,

this is another very accomplished song.  Great performances in the video.  Lovely tight playing from the band members.  It's evident that you've put a great deal of work into all aspects of this recording from the songwriting to the different instruments that fit together so well.  The backing vocals are very well developed.  As you indicated it would have been better to mic the acoustic guitar but that doesn't distract from how accomplished this is.  I find it quite difficult to offer suggestions for improvement.  I'm sure you've achieved everything that you set out to!  Very well done and thanks for sharing.

Stunning classic song writing. Brilliantly exectuted and recorded. Enjoyed it front to back

My sole niggle with the song in the the final couplet of the chorus

"You deserve a second chance/everybody needs to dance"

Something about it doesn't work for me. Hard to put my finger on it, it just doesn't "sit" with the rest of the track.
This is a tiny and personl niggle tho, loved it in general!

A real classic sound to this song... Feels comfortable, familiar, and expertly played. Ending was quite nice. Very nice listen.

Agree with pmarino that it is classic sounding, comfortable and familiar :D
This is a positive - real classic songwriting. In terms of originality or putting your own stamp on things I think it's a bit lacking. It just slots in well with other songs from that genre, but there is nothing truly unique to make it stand out.
Perhaps some other structure than verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/chorus, or a middle 8 that takes it to a different place, or (my personal fave :D) an outro that totally changes the rhythm or structure?
Or some kind of unique arrangement to give it a sound that hasnt been heard before?

It's great songwriting and great playing, it's just doesnt have that 'uniqueness' that would make me tune into this band as opposed to any other band... Of course, that might not be what you were after at all, in which case, great!
