Hey guys, i wrote this song after reading a book about the hogarthian underworld in london. Though I wrote it with a bluesy feel to it.  "strawmen" if your interested were people who would bare false witness in the witness stand for a price.  Hope you like. Im probably not going to do a recording of it though.

Common Ole Gin

E         B7
Common ole gin and kill my grief
Common ole gin and kill my grief
Common ole gin and kill my grief
B7            A                A7   E   E7
And I’ll kill my sins in the morning

I wanted to run I wanted to hide
I wanted to reach the other side
Like my baby in the sweet ole here and after

But the mud upon my boots well it wont come off
No the mud upon my boots don’t wanna come off
Those strawmen tickled me good
Them strawmen they tickled me good
Took my money didn’t do what they should

Oh they left me the dock
They left me in the dock
They left me in the dock of a morning

They let the gavel fall
And when the gavel fell
I went back to my cell
I went back to my cell to die

E         B7
So common ole gin and kill my grief
Common ole gin and kill my grief
Common ole gin and kill my grief
B7            A                A7   E   E7
And I’ll kill my sins in the morning
So please Ginny wont you be my kill grief

Hi,

these lyrics are good & sound interesting although it would be great to hear  some sort of recording to give me an idea of the melody, the chords don't tell me much, any old recording would be good cos the lyrics do have promise for me :)

This should be in the lyrics section mate  :)
There are holes in the sky where the rain gets in  , but they're ever so small, that's why rain is thin.

I agree with all of the above comments - there are infinite melodies that fit those chords so they don't help. Lyrics are good though.
Youth & enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery.
