Ah
My external yamaha steinberg ur22 soundcard
won't be acknowledged by my laptop.
Anything else I plug in works fine.

From one moment, all was fine,
to the next, it wasnt.

I think it's the USB ports not giving the soundcard enough energy.

I tried it on a different computer
And there they work.
They have the same drivers

I've tried the usual reinstalling drivers
Windows updates
Restarting
To no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

@rightly You’ve tried all the things that I would have suggested. Maybe a new USB cable. I’ve had problems with them in the past

Thanks for getting back to me John

On the steinberg website
Older drivers are available
No explanation why
I thought upgrades are supposed to be more effective
I'll try them.

An It guy told me to take out the laptops battery
Disconnect everything, let it rest for a day

I've 2 cables
On one PC both worked  neither worked on the laptop.

Couldn't have happened at a worse time

Sounds like it could be a power supply problem to the USB ports then @rightly as you expected ! Flipping technology !

@rightly - if you have a working usb port, maybe get a cheap 1 to 6 extender cable, it might just work...something like this?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerPort-Family-Sized-Technology-Smartphones-Black/dp/B00PK1IIJY/ref=asc_df_B00PK1IIJY/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=214877336784&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3219548981034428561&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006891&hvtargid=pla-420046835187&psc=1&mcid=e0c6bd96bb173441bacb2c1818d2ca6d

Yes, they're all working
Just not with the souncard

The link you posted
The product claims faster charging.
 It does look promising.
Thanks

On my way to the studio, today
I'll call in at a media technic store and see if they've
the same, or one as promising.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

@pompeyjazz @cowparsleyman

I got it worked out.

I went to
Mediamarkt
After seeking advice,
and the second assistant telling me
"Nein, nein. Wen es nicht funktioniert, dann funktioniert es Nicht!"
That's what they're like.  😆
they told me ro go to a music store.
Very impatient, nervous "experts" I ignored them.

I got myself a multi extension for usbs (a hub?)
One with it's own plug for electric
I just thought, surely, that might stabilise the power flow.

Cowparsleyman had the right idea!

Got to the studio and it was the 1st of many things I wanted to try.
Well, it worked immediately.

Back on the horse!!

Well, before you got back to me
I'd asked maybe 5 others, some surer than others,
but all of them were keen to add their spice.
Advice ranged from giving it a good shake to buying everything new (and double)
... (hmm, expensive hobby, y'got there)
Don't go wandering through the labyrinths of the ignorant!

Computer challenges are horrible
In 2 years the gained nsights are outdated.

I did look up my soundcard and the newer version has its own plug to the mains.
Mine doesn't.
The stable current can be introduced there as well.

Thanks again.

Interesting thread.

My day job is IT Manager and I look after around 2,000 Microsoft devices on our network and I can honestly say that when it comes to home recording, its worth spending a few extra ££ by saving up for an Apple MAC.

I use an M1 MAC Mini and its been no bother at all :)
